"What cube should I get?" The Puzzle Choice Thread

Do you have this cube? And if so, can you tell me what it's like? I've seen it on the cubicle, but it doesn't have any reviews.

I don't have either but I know TheProgrammingCuber has a review up on the thunderclap :)
Ps: does anyone know which I should get

I need a cube for public places i.e. smooth, silent, and does not pop. Any suggestions??

The Gans 356 is the quietest cube I have ever used.

does anybody know if the hualong is like the aolong?

I feel it is nothing like the AoLong. The AoLong is more stable, quieter, and more controllable. The HuaLong is faster and crispier feeling.

Is it just me or the MeiYing doesn't look like the Huanying, Liying, Yueying series at all? Well, maybe the corners, but the rounded edges remind me a lot of the Gans 3x3s (II, 357, 356) and the Yuxin as well.

The corners, centers, and edge tracks seem to match the YueYing almost perfectly. The designer said that this one pushes corner cutting even farther. I would say all cubes are going in this direction as far as shape goes.

Yuxin YueYing or AuLong V2

Personally after watching many reviews I have still not been able to choose between them if anyone can tell me what's good over the other that would be great I currently use a FangshiV1/Cyclone boys and avg 30-40

Yeah, I'm afraid that's the new tendency but not one that I like. The more they round the corners the less contact these have with centers and the less stable the feeling of the cube and the less square it feels when turning (it deforms more). I prefer cubes like the Weilong and Chilong and also the Aolong (even if I'm not really fond of its outer roundedness). I've tried the Yuxin and Gans 357 and have not liked any of those. People talks wonders of the 356 but it's a bit expensive to just buy it and, most probably, not like it.

I have failed to like almost any cube since I got my Chilong (which still is my main since then). My latest acquisition has been the Yueying. I didn't like it out of the box. This weekend I restickered it, lubed the core (wt 5) and pieces (wt 2) and it was nearly perfect but after like 20 solves it became much faster and loose and I had to tighten it more but I still need to to make it a bit slower and more controllable so I'll probably add lube or put slower lube in the pieces (wt 3 or even 5). It's an improvement over the Huanying (I did not try the Liying) but if the Meiying goes in the round edges direction I don't think I'm gonna try it.

Hey guys. I've been out the loop since like 2010 - anyone wanna give me a summary on what the newest 3x3s are, how they feel, etc and what happened since faz cut the 7s single?

well if you have been inactive scince 2010 absolutely every speed cube (except for the guhong, which is decent today) you know about are rubbish now.

the most popular now are the Moyu/Cong design cubes, (like the Hualong, Aolong V2, and Yueying) The Gans 356 and 357,the Yuxin 3x3 and the Fangshi Guangying. Some other ones that are less popular are: the Dayan zhanchi (was considered the best cube on the market for 2011-to mid 2013 and still fairly good by todays standards, the Qiyi Bullfight and Thunderclap (Im considering the latter to be my main), witeden type C5 wittyou V2 (this cube is a bit underrated IMO) and the Yj guanlong (which only cost <4$).
If you want a good 4x4 cube get the Yuxin 4x4 or Moyu Aosu

Also feliks broke the world record a couple more times lowering it to 5.66 seconds and then in early 2013 Matts talk broke it with a 5.55 which stood fore more than 2 years before recently Collin burns broke it with a 5.25 single. Feliks currently holds 3x3wr avg at 6.54 seconds.

Hey guys, I've been cubing on and off for a while now, but with a comp coming up in July I thought I'd update my old equipment. I haven't kept up with whats popular, last I remember Panshi was coming out and shengshou took over the big cubes with non-pillowed cubes.

Currently I have:
3x3x3 | an old Dayan LingYun
4x4x4 | a Shengshou v2
megaminx | mf8? tiled
2x2x2 | I don't even remember, whatever was decent just before WitTwo came out
7x7x7 | None, would like one though

Can anyone give me a few recommendations? Preferably from the same shop to cut down on shipping costs, but I don't mind getting a few at a time. Thanks

3x3 maybe try a moyu huanlong, gans 356, fangshi guanying, yuxin 3x3, and cong's design meiying, those seem to be the most popular right now.
4x4 yuxin 4x4, moyu aosu
2x2 probably dayan zhanchi 2x2, or moyu lingpo
megaminx, dayan, with ridges imo
7x7 shengshou

This is just my observations of what the general commmunity likes, I do not personally have any of these, although I have ordered a few of them, and will order more soon. But please listen to what other people have to say as I am not very educated on this topic myself, but I think I have a grasp of what other people currently like.

I do not know about the shops because firstly I do not know if certain cube shops even ship to ire land, I think all of these cubes should be on thecubicle.us and I think they ship internationally (correct me if I am wrong).

3x3: theres way to many choices, Moyu, and Gans are the top 2 companies for 3x3, the market is oversaturated with good 3x3's (p.s. the Panshi was crap)
4x4: get the moyu Aosu or Yuxin 4x4,
megaminx: dayan or shengshou
7x7: mini shengshou or Moyu Aofu
2x2: Moyu Lingpo, Dayan 2x2 or Either Fangshi 2x2

As for the shop, try the Cubicle, there in New York and shipping is decently fast. I've ordered from them many times and they also have nice stickers and lube.
Cubes4speed is another shop I hear that is good In Washington state. I've not ordered from them yet but they have low prices and I hear there shipping is really good.

Ok, thats a lot of help, thanks.
I'll probably get a few moyu products, what makes them top of the range at the moment?
It's funny how the non-major events have still got the same recommendations as a few years back.

Are cubesmith stickers still considered the best around?
