Right now, I have a Rubik's speed cube. Lame, I know. It locks up a LOT and the corner cutting is bad. I average around 35 seconds, but I know almost all the PLL algorithms. I wan't a cube that is a controllable speed, corner cuts pretty good, and doesn't pop often. I have no idea what I should get, and pardon me if someone made a post really similar to this, I didn't want to read 699 pages. If anyone can help me that'd be great. Thanks!
Actually, if you lube and tension the Rubik's speed cube properly, it becomes really really fabulous imo. Comparable to a good Weilong.
Out of the box it's really terrible but with some 50k or 30k on the pieces and some 50k in the core it goes super fast. You can reduce the locking by tightening down tensions a bit.

Is it feasible to make cube mods out of modern speedcubes?

I know that people used to make Siamese cubes out of Rubik's or Diansheng cubes, but I've thought about making something like a Siamese GuanLong. YJ cubes are cheap enough, but my only concern is the possibility of the mod not being stable.
I've also heard SS cubes are good for modding. Anything else?

im a slow cuber but i have the CFOP method down and know all PLLs and about half the OLLs. i just can't seem to get fast a f2l, finger tricks and look ahead. my along is fast but its hard to tell some of the colors apart because i got the one with pale neon colors. Which cube feels the most fun or the best, The Gans III v2, Fangshi Shaung Ren V2 or the Dayan Zhanchi?

Aolong is a great cube. Fastest and best corner-cutting cube period is the Gans 357 (over the Aolong). But it's a touch louder and has an untraditional feel. It feels as if it wants to move. Apart from that, I like the Zhanchi, as it is super fast, smooth and quiet. Amazing cube, still. Honestly though, the weilong and aolong are really just improvements on this (the zhanchi's) design, so perhaps to broaden your horizons, the Gans or a Fangshi cube is an order. The Fangshi Shaung Ren is a super fast and overall excellent cube, though its design is a deal different from the Aolong and most other cubes for that matter. It is very light, and has a interesting scratchy feel. It is very fast though. Perhaps faster than the Aolong. However, it can lock up on you. The Guangying is fast as well, and it's construction is less loose, however its performance is at best the same or less than that of the Shuang Ren.

1: Gans 357 2: Fangshi 3: Zhanchi

If you like your Aolong, have you thought about ordering a sticker set and changing them? You can choose your own custom color set at TheCubicle.com. Of course, it can be almost as cheap or even cheaper to order a new cube. If you like standard Moyu sticker shades (of the standard ones these are the ones I like the most) you have plenty of options to choose from, but if you are a slow cuber (what your average more or less?) perhaps a very good and cheap option is the Moyu / YJ Sulong, it's plenty fast but very controllable at the same time.

I am still a Dayan person so I want to get the Guhong V2.

I noticed that the GuHong V2 was a little more rigid than the original GuHong. It really is just making the qualities of the original that much more prevalent. If you like the structure of the GuHong, I say go for it. I do like it, but it's not my favorite by any means.

oh sorry i forgot to mention my along is stickerless and it has pale neon colors so the orange green and yellow are hard to contrast. but yeah my average is about 1 minute 15 sec. i went ahead and got a fangshi shaung ren v2. thanks for the help tho

I am trying to decide what to use at an upcoming comp: a Guanlong or a Yulong. The Guanlong is a bit faster for me but corner twists more. Also, i have had a few explosions on the Yulong (but they have been rare) What do you guys recommend?

Practice with both. Do several Ao100 with each one and use the one you get best times with. That's what I'd do. If averages are similar get the one you're more consistent with (smaller standard deviation). Also take a look at the number of DNFs with each one and factor that in as well. Scientific method :)

Or, you know, you could just choose the one you feel more confortable with, hehehe.

I'd stick to the Chilong. If you really want to try something different then get a Gans 357. Not sure it will be good for OH, though.

I average 15.7x. Chilong sucks for me. It doesn't match my turning style, locks up a lot on me and lacks corner cutting. Isn't Gans 357 a hit or miss cube?
What is the most reliable cube for me right now? I want a smooth, quiet, fast(not uncontrollable). I have a forceful turning style.

It all depends on how you set it (tensions & lube) because, to be honest, I don't think the Chilong has less corner cutting than, say, a Weilong.

Regarding the Gans 357 I cannot tell, I ordered one last month but I have not received it yet (due to chinese new year) and, anyway, I'm slower than you so... but even if I was as fast or faster the best person to know which cube is the best for you is... yourself.

I'll try my best to help you, though :). If you want quiet then forget about the Huanying, Liying, Yueying, and also about the new FS Guangying. If you want fast, well, you can make any top cube fast with proper lube so... I'd say:

- If you liked your Aolong V1 perhaps try an Aolong V2,
- If not get a Zhanchi (really!!!). Felix posted the other day a vid & blog you can check here) where he says he wasn't aware how good the Zhanchi still was.
- If you don't want a Zhanchi, for whatever reason, which I think you have said several times, then get a Weilong
- and if you don't want a Weilong, come on, try the Gans...
- or the Yuxin :)

and if not, get a new Chilong, perhaps yours is worn out or plain bad, even though I think it might just be a case of a cube not properly set up. Mine is wonderful, plenty fast (I even slowed it down a bit with lube) and corner cutting is a bit more than 45º and reverse c.c. is 2/3 of a cubie easily, no pops, no corner twists, almost no lock-ups... I lock up less than with my Weilong (v2).
