Thanks for the quick reply. Since I might only be ordering cubes once (shipping and import charges are a killer), I'd like to get cubes that I can use at both intermediate and professional level. I checked out your YouTube channel and your review of the LingPo (great channel by the way), and from watching it, it seems like it locks up a lot. Is that just the way it looks, or is it actually a really smooth cube? The ShiShuang doesn't seem much faster than the Rubik's 2x2 either, so I think I'd need a faster cube.

I took your advice with the 3x3's onboard, and right now, I'm planning on getting both the YJ Chilong and the ShuangRen V2. How does this sound? I'll check out that lube also.

LingPo locks up during reverse corner cutting on loose tensions. But, It is nothing to worry about.

55 zhanchi or 54.5 weilong?
I really don't know which for OH. I use huanying currently and I'm at 30 seconds.
I haven't had any OH cubes yet so i am not trying to tell you which one to use, but don't forget the ShuangRen as an option. I actually asked the same question a little bit ago, and didn't really get an answer, so i am looking forawrd to people answering yours.

should i get a fangshi 50mm 2x2 or 55mm 2x2 and lightake has a 48mm fangshi 2x2 what is the difference, was it discontinued. what are the qualities of the cubes. thx.

The FangShi ShiShuang 2x2 is extremely smooth but personally I love the 55mm FangShi more than the 50mm. The only real difference between the two, besides the size, is the fact that the 50mm version is tiled while the 55mm is stickered. The 48mm on Lightake is just the 50mm 2x2 but for some reason they describe it as 48mm.

I personally like my 55 zhanchi (I haven't really tried a mini fangshi) over my mini weilong for OH, but all three of those cubes are amazing. Just like for 2H, it depends on what feel, speed, etc you like. Or you could just use your 3x3 main; especially if you're just starting, the 2mm won't make much of a difference.

Thx ill prob get a 55mm but i asked the lightake support and they said that the 48mm is stickered so idk. but thx.

Yet another "What should I buy?" post...

Hi! I currently have about $90 dollars to spend on cubes , and was wondering what you would suggest for me to buy. I currently own a couple of 3x3s, a 2x2, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, megaminx, gear cube extreme, pyraminx and mirror blocks.
Finally, I was thinking about getting either the hexaminx or the 3x3 mixup cube with part of the money. Should I get one or the other, or none?
Thanks!
Jp

If you want to get a hexaminx or mixup cube then go ahead and get those but how about getting a 7x7 or skewb.

Hmmm, I'm not sure, because I want to get either one or the other because they are really expensive and would allouw for me to buy other and different cubes.

Which puzzle should I get? The Mefferts Ghost Cube or the Calvin's Hexaminx? The Ghost Cube's about 36 bucks and the Hexaminx's 38, so they're about the same price. Which one's more worth the cash?

Cube Types, and Buying Help?

I recently got back into cubing, and I am ready to buy my first cube. I joined this forum in search for your guys' expertise.
I'm sorry if this topic already exists, and I am asking the same thing as many, but I can't find such topic myself.

I currently use my dad's cube from his childhood, which is not the greatest, as it can't cut what so ever, and its spin is very gritty.
I would like to know if I could be redirected to a page about the cube types (a,b,c,d,e,f) that explains the differences between them, and the advantages/inconveniences.

Also, what are some of the most popular cubes at the moment, and why?

When I learned how to solve and started to move away from a Rubik's brand, I started with a Shengshou Wind. My friend recommended it to me because it was not as forgiving as the super fast cubes but it also had smooth turning to get you started on speedcubing. Use stores like the cubicle or cube depot which provide good prices and shipping. Glad to help!

There is already a thread for this here: http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/s...-The-Puzzle-Choice-Thread&p=974481#post974481

But some of the most popular cubes at the moment are the YJ ChiLong and YuLong, Dayan Zhanchi, FangShi Shuangren V2, MoYu WeiLong, and Gans III V2 and 57mm. There are many other cubes on the market but these are the ones I find most popular. They are all relatively fast, can corner cut, don't lock-up, and won't pop. Each has it's own unique feeling. Oh, and we don't really use types (A, B, C, D, E, F, etc.) anymore.

The difference between the top of the line cubes and decent speed cubes is not going to make a big difference for someone starting into speed cubing. They will all feel like heaven compared to a Rubik's Brand. If you want a super cheap cube that does a great job, I would try the YJ Sulong:

http://lightake.com/p/YJ-SuLong-3x3x3-Competition-Version-56mm_m1125.html

If you look at reviews, it actually has become some people's main or secondary cube, because it is smooth and durable. The sticker quality on YJ/Moyu cubes is great too. I bought 12 of these to use for teaching in my classroom, and the kids beat the crap outta these cubes, but they never break, and they rarely pop. The only complaint about the cube is that it's a bit slow compared to the "speed" cubes. However, it's still lightning fast compared to Rubik's Brand. I think as far as cost vs. quality, it's hard to beat the Sulong.

Okay thanks guys. I didn't realize that the cube types are abandoned.
I'm not really concerned for price, just as long as it is in the 15$ and lower range. Would the YJ Sulong or the Shengshou Wind be the best pick in that category, or would there be something higher at the top of that range that could get me something significantly better?

BTW I do have some experience with speed cubes, I often use my friends.

They are both excellent beginner cubes but it kind of depends on what you want in a cube. If you want a buttery smooth cube then go with the Wind. If you want a slightly faster, slightly clicky cube go with the SuLong. For $15 though you can pretty much get any 3x3 you want. Both of these cubes are relatively cheap though. I got them both for about $5 each. That being said, the ChiLong, YuLong, and Aurora might also be an option for you.
