If you want a smooth cube, the Fangshi, CX3, Sulong, Chilong, and Huanying out of the picture. They're quite crunchy.
If you want a medium speed, I wouldn't go with the Weilong. It's quite fast.

I would suggest the Shengshou Aurora. It's decently fast, pretty smooth, and good for beginners.

Thanks!
I was leaning toward an Aurora
but is there another cube you would suggest?
I want to get 2 cubes so i can try different kinds of cubes to see what I prefer
feel wise (smooth or crunchy etc)

Personally(my opinion), I would try some Dayan cubes. Despite them being older, they're still really, really good cubes(and the ones I use for my mains.)

Thanks!

The aurora is a fairly slow cube and I personally did not like the feel or speed of it very much due to the over smoothness.
It is a decent cube and is worth getting to try.

If you have $30 to spend on cubes you should get the following to "Test out the feels"
-ShengShou Aurora
-MoYu Sulong
-Fangshi ShunagRen
-Dayan Zhanchi

Is the Maru Cx3 worth trying?
I've watched and read reviews on it and people seem to either love it or not like it's feel

With the Maru Cx3 is hit or miss, I tried one I liked it a lot but the owner didn't like it much at all I am not sure of the price but if you can try one before buying try it first

I can't try one i don't think
the only other cubes my friends have are rubik's bramd

The moyu weilong v2 fells a little more crispy but that doesnt change the speed. Ive personally not held the cube but found this from a reveiw. Anyway a little change in the peice could make a major difference like the gans 3. Maybe they changed the molding?

I love the Maru CX3. Just my opinion. I'm not a super fast solver, but I can sub 20 average on a good day. Still working on it

Most people prefer the zhanchi, although guhong v2 is still a very popular cube.

Iirc ninja storm uses a zhanchi.

I do! A modded Zhanchi Silk from early 2012, but it's still a Zhanchi.

@NooberCuber: I would personally recommend the Zhanchi and the Guhong. Others seem to like the Panshi, but the general consensus is that the Panshi is inferior to the aforementioned cubes.

Funnily enough I remember you from YCDTRC 2 years ago with your Zhanchi Silk. You were "fast dude".
I would say the Guhong and Zhanchi are on par with each other, for different styles, though the Zhanchi sees a lot more popularity.

hello all
i'm relatively new to the sport, not yet below 24sec.
so far i've been using a rubies' pre-assembled with vaseline, so i guess it's time step things up…
this is what i know:
--at this point, i don't know much about cube maintenance, so a low-maintenance cube would be ideal (and not DIY either, ofc)
--i'm not particularly gentle with my cube, so i'll buy a more robust cube
--i'd prefer if robustness didn't come at the expense of corner-cutting or speed/smoothness

suggestions of brands i should peruse or models i should consider would be much appreciated

Unfortunately all cubes require a degree of maintenance. With most, if you buy them pre-lubed, you might get away with a few months before you need to lube the pieces, at fairly low usage, and a bout longer till you need to re-lube the core.

My lowest-maintenance cube is a weilong, as it requires almost no lubing. The Fangshi Shuang Ren also requires very little lubing, unlike Dayan cubes, which are more lube hungry. But these two cubes are quite fast and unstable.

My recommendation? Buy a cube that is lubed and tensioned from a good store, and some lube to occasionally lube the pieces, which is very very easy. That should keep you going for best part of a year before any REAL maintenance is required; however by then you'll probably have learnt to love the maintenance anyway!

The Shengshou Aurora is a solid cube, that might be worth looking at. The Dayan Guhong 2 is also less flimsy (in my experience) than other Dayan cubes, so maybe worth a look.

thanks i'll look into those.
from your experience, is it possible/typical for a one's handling style/tendencies to adapt to a new cube (especially for newer cubers?)

I am a ZhanChi guy. I love the feel of the ZhanChi. I have tried a FangShi and didn't like its sandy feel. I am thinking of getting a Weilong (v1 or v2). Before, I order one, I need to know how it feels. I have a LingPo and I like its feel( despite lockups). Does the Weilong feel similar to LingPo/ZhanChi?
