If you want non cubic then go for megaminx or skewb. If you want a better 2x2, get a Dayan or a Moyu Lingpo. Go for 5x5 if you want. But out of all these, I recommend Megaminx because it looks cool.

Skewb (lanlan or the projected moyu skewb), pyraminx (shengshou!), 5x5 (shengshou or again the projected Moyu 5x5), Square-1

The Moyu 5x5 and 6x6 are not even out yet after two months of being delayed, so I doubt that the Moyu skewb will be out very soon, plus LanLans are pretty cheap, so I think you should just get a LanLan for now.

I'm going to get my first speed cube. I have a V-cube, but it locks up easily. I'm looking at either the Moyu Aolong, or the Fangshi Shuangren II. Thoughts? I'm only at around 1:10 average.

It's actually the Fangshi Shuangren V2 not Mangshi haha. I own an Aolong, but it is quite fast after lubing. Out of those 2 I would recommend the Moyu Aolong. I would recommend a Shengshou Aurora or a YJ Chilong/Sulong at your speed because they are very low costing cubes. <$7

Ah. I mistyped.
The first thought I had was to get the Aurora because many people said it is a good "beginner" cube. What makes that better than the Aolong or Fangshi besides price?
Also, If it was between the Aolong, or Shuang ren, which would you prefer and why?

Get a YJ Yulong. You can use that to get to Sub 15 times and then think about getting better cubes!

Do you think it's bad, or detrimental to get a "better" cube early on? Would the faster turning speed of an Aolong make it too difficult for a beginner or would I just get used to it? Honestly $15 seems fine to pay if it is worth it.

as my first speed cube i got a Dayan Guhong v2, it was perfect, wasn't hard to get used to because its blocky like a regular rubiks brand cube.
