Wow that was a very thorough response. Thank you!

-I only think i have one question. How can a cube be too fast? What does that mean? Wouldn't a person (especially a new cuber) want the fastest cube possible for maximum skill increasing and time decreasing? I would think a faster cube= faster solve. If you could go into a little bit of detail on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Roosterfart

The main reason why we don't recommend beginners get the best cube on the market is because it will be too uncontrollable for them. A lot of beginners think that getting the best cube on the market will magically make them faster but it won't. In fact it will probably hinder them more than help them.

Because beginner cubers such as you will start to develop bad habits if they use the fastest speedcubes on the market. They will cut corners too much, overshoot, and overall get used to solving with bad technique which will hurt them in the long run. Don't use lube yet, and don't get a super fast cube until you can solve under like 40 seconds everytime. Do not however stick with a storebought either.

I kind of disagree with the uncontrollable thing. My first speed cube was a stickerless zhanchi, and then almost immediately my current main, which is a Lubix Weilong v1 (I received it when I was averaging around 55 seconds). Since then, I've bought Sulong, Guhong v2, Cyclone Boys, Dianma, and a few other random cubes, just to see of any of them would feel more comfortable at my slower speeds (mostly because of people on here telling me that I'm too slow for a Weilong). I gave them all a lot of tries, but always went back to the Weilong, which gets me the best times. I would say, it's not going to make a huge difference which cube you get at your speed, but there's nothing wrong with getting the best if you don't mind spending the money. However, if you are just starting, and not 100% sure how you feel about speed cubing, get a YJ Sulong. It's super cheap, but very very good, and it will be great for you.

I was just about to comment on the "uncontrollable thing" as well. I bought a Rubik's and used it for a few weeks before my friend sold me a black Zhanchi. I used that thing right until the Weilong came out and have been using the Weilong as my main since. I have bought pretty much every 3x3x3 lol; the ones I hate the most are the Aurora, Shuangren V2, and the Sulong(kind of).

I'd say don't buy Shengshou 3x3x3s ever.

It's mostly personal preference based off of feeling. However like DeeDubb said, if money is an issue, get the Sulong. If not, I'd say any Moyu cube. Watch youtube reviews for more detail on each cube.

Deedubb/ LazyEinstein: I am pretty much in the same exact situation as both of you and have the same view about mains, however i don't think he should got straight out and buy a WeiLong, my first speedcube was a stickerless Zhanchi which i got about a month after i started cubing, about 6 months later, i got a WeiLong and it is now my main, but even getting it averaging 40 seconds, i never think i have developed bad habits or had problems with uncontrolability (if that is even a word)

I recommend that you just get a Zhanchi to start out with. It worked fine for me.

Well im definately not worried about money because i was thinking a good cube like the 'pros' use would be like $30 so anything is better than that (i'm not worried about money anyway just to be clear...if it comes down to saving money or getting a better cube, i would like to get the good cube)...
-I live in upstate NY

-Someone said something about not getting a better cube until i get around 55 seconds, and someone else said that they deffinately would not stay with a store bought cube...so does that mean I should buy one of the less quick ones right now or stay with the store bought one until i get a litle bit faster...if so, how much faster should i be before i get a semi-quick one...and when should I get some lubrication for the cube?

I would say to get a better cube pretty soon, we are just saying not to go out and get what the WR holders are using yet. For lube, you shouldn't really worry about that until you get like sub 45, but you can whenever you want.

Interesting. I guess it just varies from person to person. I'm sub 20 and I can't use Weilongs. Or at least, I couldn't last time I tried one. It was way too fast and was just frustrating. I suppose it depends on turning style more than how fast you are. There are also people that average less than 15 who think weilongs are too fast.

Faster cube doesn't mean faster solve. It meanse the cube turns faster. If you can solve a cube in one minute or more, then you do around one or less turns per second. Speedcubes like the Zhanchi and Weilong are meant for people around 3 tps or faster. You will find them hard to control if you get them. Buy a YJ cube. :)

Here's my question:/
I average sub 35 with a Chilong. Should I buy a new cube when I go sub 30? If so then should I buy the Shuangren v2 or Zhanchi ?

The main reason I like my Weilong is because it just isn't as locky as other cubes. Maybe because I can keep the tensions very loose without worrying about popping. My second favorite cube is my Guhong, but I feel it locks up more, and I have to be a bit more accurate. Maybe I've developed "bad habits", but who cares if I can use my cube well?

Also, not every Weilong is the same. People use different tensions, and different lubes. I felt a few Weilongs, and they felt quite different than mine. Every cube is different and every speed cube is adjustable.

Anyway, get what you feel like, and learn on it. It doesn't really matter at this point. If you aren't worried about money, get anything you want now, and then get a few more later and see which one feels best. I'm still buying 3x3s trying to find my "perfect cube". I'm hopeful about the AoLong, we'll see though.

I am sub-21 and My main is a YJ SuLong. That should answer your question I think.

i think he's answering your question by saying that you can get to 20 seconds with a decent speedcube, so you don't need to buy anything else. Buy whatever you want, but you can keep improving with your Chilong.

Oh okay. I get it know. Do you think a Yulong is better than a Chilong? My Chilong sucks a lot. It corner twists every 2-3 solves even on moderate tensions. :( I'm getting tired of it.

Personally I like the YuLong better than the ChiLong, I find it faster and clicker, but what Shah said is correct. You can get faster with any cube. Is your ChiLong properly tensioned and lubed? Corner twists sometimes indicate that your cube is too loose but I recall you mentioning in another post that you tightened it to work on your turning. It's up to you whether or not to go ahead and buy a new cube like the ShuangRen or Zhanchi but you can still eventually average sub-20 with the cube you're currently using. If you're worried about corner twists or pops neither of these cubes have corner twists and it's physically impossible to pop a ShuangRen and with proper turning, the Zhanchi also does not pop.

I've just decided on a Moyu Weilong and one other 3x3 from lightake.com. I average about 20 flat and I'm looking to be sub 15 (sub 20 first obviously).

I would like to buy the other 3x3 from lightake.com for under $12. Would like an 'outside' cube (one that won't pop practically ever (currently using a slightly broken lunhui)).

Thanks in advance

Your WeiLong could be your outside cube, they never pop.

I already asked something sort of similar to this, but could someone who knows rank the Moyu 3x3s from slowest to fastest?

What I'm looking for is a relatively slow cube, but one with good reverse corner cutting and not much by way of lockups.

Maybe Dianma? I don't like it cause of the mid slicing, but I also have pretty big hands/fingers. It corner cuts amazingly, and doesn't lock up too much.
