Unless it's modded that is. Unmodded Guhongs are really clicky, modded they're only surpassed in smoothness by maybe the Aurora.

Zhanchi is great too, but it's somewhat crispier than the Guhong. It's pretty smooth modded too, and most say slightly faster than Guhong although not by any great margin.

Weilong is really fast, and not particularly smooth, although not too crunchy either. Might suit you, but it's hard to know.

Also, Shengshou Aurora is really smooth, pretty fast, really good cube. Only it lacks torpedoes so it might pop a bit more if you're a bit rough.

The thing is, though, that everybody can say they like smooth cubes but then they'll hear everybody recommending the smoothest cubes on the market.

I'd rather tell you this:
Gans III, Fangshi, Maru CX3 are all really crunchy, maybe you'd like them if you tried them but they don't fit the criteria you give. All the other cubes above I talked about are the ones that I personally would fit your criteria the best.

Two things.

First, What mod are you talking about that makes guhongs/Zhanchis faster?

Second, I've heard so many people say the Fangshi is crunchy. Mine is tremendously smooth, albeit a little bit crunchy, but not very. Am I misunderstanding the description of "crunchy"? I love my Fangshi, it's my main alongside my Cx3, but I wouldn't call it crunchy i don't think. The CX3, on the other hand, is the crunchiest cube, by my definitions, i've ever felt. I love it.

The mod that makes a clicky guhong smooth is the 48 point edge mod, smoothing a little ridge on the base of the edge - 4 per edge = 48 points.

In the Zhanchi, this is exacerbated by the hexagonal centre base, so some prefer to round this off (CPM or centre point mod).

Doesn't necessarily make them faster, but it reduces turning resistance, so the same amount of effort will effects greater degree of rotation, I guess! Only turning your hands faster will make a cube turn faster, at the end of the day!

;-)

I'll have to research this. Thank you for the information!

I may indeed have a different interpretation of "crunchy". Indeed, the Fangshi is pretty smooth turning, but it does have (for me) a distinctly "crunchy" feel while solving.

As to the mods, Guhong is mainly 48 PEM, maybe corner mods too. Zhanchi is great with CPM, then corner mods, then maybe 48 PEM.

My apologies, but I don't recognize the acronym CPM. Corner Piece Mod? Is that different from "corner mods"? D:

What is a good brand of 3x3x3 cubes?

i currently own a dayan 3 but i cant say that i love it. ive met a guy on the street and he had a pretty cool rubiks cube and i really liked the way it turned, but i cant remember the brand of it, i remember that the name had 2 words and the first one was something like "shang". Anyway if you guys can help me remember the brand, that would be great. but if not, then could you recomend a good brand?

ShengShou by anyway?

Fangshi Shishuang 2x2x2 55 mm

Hello, I'm new in the forum
I have a simple question: Should I get the Fangshi Shishuang 2x2x2 55 mm?
Is it good? Do you recommend the size?

ShuangRen? Model not a brand tho.

My thoughts are probably a shengshou (aurora would be the type, shengshou the maker), or POSSIBLY a Fangshi Shuangren?

I absolutely love my FangShi ShuanRen V2 57 mm cube, except that it is a bit too big for my tiny hands. Are there any 55 mm cubes with a similar feel (I am not interested in the 54.6 mm ShuangRen as there is only a V1 which I have tried and do not like).

The 54.6s were after the v2s were made. They have all the modifications of v2s. Nothing else feels like a fangshi.. Sorry :/

Fangshi cubes are kind of varied, maybe you got a good 57mm and a bad 54.6. The 54.6 uses the v2 mech. So.

I do own two ShuangRens and they're drastically different even though they're the same version.

Thanks, I didn't realize the 54.6 mm had the V2 mechanism. The one I tried was my friends, so it is possible he tensioned or lubed it badly or differently than how I like it. Thanks for the help.

Best 4x4 for Beginners?

Hello, I've been looking to get a better 4x4 because I just have the Rubik's brand one and I don't even like to solve it anymore because it is just so bad.
I've looked into mainly the Shengshou 4x4, the Moyu Weisu, and the Moyu AoSu.
So far of what I know about them is that the Shengshou is fast, and after modding it, it makes it even better, the Moyu Weisu isn't as fast as the Shengshou and has a pretty bad popping problem, but it's is still pretty good, and the Moyu AoSu is very fast, doesn't have any popping problems, and is considered by many people to be the best on the market.
I don't really want a cube that is too fast, but I also don't want to have to deal with any annoying lockups or pops.
I haven't learned the reduction method yet, but I'm planning to by the time i get the new cube.
Right now, I only average around 3:30-4:15 minutes, probably because I absolutely hate to solve the Rubik's version.
Also, I average around 30-40 seconds on the 3x3.
I'm having a lot of trouble deciding which one I want to purchase.
Please let me know your suggestions and comments about this.
Thanks!

I think the general consensus is that Moyu Aosu and Weisu are the top 4x4s atm. Wouldn't consider shengshou unless you really think it will outperform the others for whatever reason. Between the two, I cannot say, however :(

Forget the WeiSu now that Aosu is out. ShengShou is faster than WeiSu, dont know about AoSu. ShengShou needs to be modded very well to be great. This requires probably a few tries at modding and some skill. WeiSu does not pop after you break it in and tension it well.

I'd probably go with the AoSu if I didnt have any of those three.

SUPER LATE EDIT:

Also not that for a beginner pretty much anything works. You should be able to hit sub 2 min times even with the crappiest Rubik's brand 4x4. Regular shengshou would probably then be the best because it is very cheap and actually not that bad even when unmodded. Aosu/Weisu are just better in terms of lock ups. 4x4 world records have been broken with unmodded Shengshou 4x4s (I think v3 or v4 and those locked WAY more than the current v5). My point is that by the time you're sub 1-1.30 (and probably start to care much more about hardware, because bad cubes actually slow you down a lot) a new better MoYu 4x4 could be out.
