Zhanchi... pops quite a lot... when I try to do certain PLL's quickly... I recently purchased a Weilong

Don't want to be a Weilong fanboy, but I bought one for exactly this reason. Part of the reason for the Zhanchi pops was my turning technique, which is improving as well, but I find the LL much smoother with the Weilong.

Interesting thing was my Zhanchi was tensioned perfectly - just loose enough to be able to cut about 40 degrees. I got pops doing some of my clumsier PLLs. When I got my Weilong I tried to tension it using the same method, and kept finding that I could tighten 1/4 turn more and not lose any cutting. And again. And again. And 1/2 turn. And a whole turn! It just seemed like however tight I have it, it still cuts like a hot knife through butter.

I probably got about 1 or 2 pops in an Ao50 with my old Zhanchi. I've probably done maybe 5,000 solves with my Weilong, and not a single pop.

Enjoy your Weilong Lazy, it's a good cube. The Zhanchi is as well, but sounds like you have the same turning problems as me, and the Zhanchi is less forgiving of my clumsiness!

I am pretty new to cubing but I bought a Zhanchi off a kid in my college(reason I started cubing) and I get pops quite a lot.
Mostly when I try to do certain PLL's quickly.

But I recently purchased a Weilong, Guhong V2, and a Gans lll. So we will see if they pop less.
I am looking forward to the Weilong. Looks good for popping.

Did you even try changing up your tension on the Guhong, RageCuber?

My Zhanchi cuts a little under 45 now but pops half as often.

If tensioned and lubed right the zhanchi never pops. It can also manage 45 degrees easily.

As for the other cubes you bought, if you don't lube and tension them properly then it will pop quite a lot too.

what's the latest most popular cube?

I'm looking to get some new cubes, the last cube I bought wast the Zhanchi (spelling) and that was like 2 years ago and I havent' needed a new cube but I am looking to start speedsolving again and I am looking to get the latest hottest item and was hoping you all would comment your personal opinion.

The Weilong is NOTHING like the Guhong. At all! Or the Fangshi. I don't think any non-Dayan cubes feel like a Guhong - personally I agree with TheNextFeliks, a torpedoed, overlubed Zhanchi tensioned correctly would feel a bit like a Guhong, but pop less.

Having said that, I haven't tried a CX-3 or Gans, so I can't comment on them.

Out of the box, a weilong does, if it's not pre-lubed.

Weilong. That's my favorite and it holds a WR. It's held 2, actually.

Wow such surprise. :D
Don't worry rj just busting your chops. Weilong is probs the cube that most people prefer now, I personally don't own own but I've felt one and it's quite good.
Others are (in no particular order):
Maru CX3 (crunchy, quite fast)
Fangshi ShuangRen v2 (fast, swishy feel, sometimes catches)
ShengShou Aurora (really smooth, sometimes pops)
Moyu Chilong, Moyu Sulong (these two are more controllable than Weilong)
Gans III v2 (quite fast, light, bit locky, crunchy-ish)

Keep in mind, I don't own most of these cubes. I'm just good at reading what other people think.

[sarcasm] I would still say definitely get the V-Cube 3 just because all the other cubes are totes knockoffs. [/sarcasm]

Which Cube?

Hello everyone, I am brand new to the forum, and I have a couple of questions regarding my 3x3 mains, and how I should select them. First of all, I am about a 19 second average solver, with a PB single of 13.43. I am currently working on look-ahead, as it is the thing I feel I need to work on the most to see faster times and better results. Currently, I am using a well broken in Guhong V2. I like the buttery-smooth feeling of it, but at times I get a little bored of the feeling, and I feel like it is time to get a new cube or two. I haven't been actively cubing for a few months, and I am looking to get back into it pretty seriously. I haven't gotten any new cubes for a few months, and I have realized that many new brands of cubes have been coming out. I also have the Zhanchi, and the Lingyun V2, although I don't feel that they are very close to my style. I am looking at getting either a WeiLong, and a Fanshi. I've done a pretty good amount of research looking these two up, and they seem to be the two that most people are considering to be the best cubes. Taking into account my average solving time, with the feeling that I am looking for (Crispy, Fast, Smooth), what do you guys recommend for me to look at? I am certain that I will be buying the WeiLong and the Fanshi, but I am curious as to what other ones you guys might suggest for a cuber like me (such as maybe the Shengshou Aurora). Thank you for reading, and let me know!!

White or Black ?

Hi everyone ;)

I need some help as to which cube to choose .The options are either a Black DaYan ZhanChi or a White one .
I love the way a white zhanchi looks , however people say that the white distracts your eyes and it is more difficult to recognize colours with ease.
Is this true?
These are my 2 main options but if you find another colour to be better please tell me about it.

You cant have a crispy and a smooth cube imo. I'd say that the weilong is a smooth one and the fangshi a crisp one. Both are very fast, though the weilong is faster. If currently solve at the same speed as you and have the following cubes: Zhanchi, CPM Zhanci, FangShi, Guhong v2, WeiLong, SuLong. My main is the WeiLong. Cubes I'm currently looking forward to buying are the Maru CX-3 and the Gans III. The Maru is supposedly crunchy, fast but accurate. Dont know much about the Gans except that it's good according to some.

If I didnt have the cubes I have, I'd probably buy the Weilong first, Maru CX-3 second, FangShi third and the Gans III last.

Not true. People cube with whatever they are used to. My main used to be a white cube when I started (for a long long time) so I got used to white. Then I got a black cube and had that for a long time. After that I found primary colour cubes which is kinda a compromise between the two. It's not as "in your face" like white cubes but not dark like the black cubes either. The colour contrast is great (atleast with half bright stickers) and the between the pieces dont look as dark.

There is no best choice for everyone but the best choice for me was the primary colour. Primary Zhanchis are sold e.g. here: http://zcube.cn/Cube_Brand/DaYan/Dayan5_ZhanChi.html . Primary colour is also known as milky colour.

I have a ChiLong. It's easy to control. And a WeiLong. Definitely amazing! :tu Recently I heard about a lot of good stuffs of the Cyclone boys, people say it feels like a simplified ZhanChi. So I think I 'm going to buy one. :p

Personally I prefer the primary.
