I have been using a non-magnetic 2x2 for 2 years and I’m averaging about 4 seconds using the ortega method. I wanna get a new one cuz the one I’m using has too many catches and lock-ups. I like controllable cubes more than fast ones, is there any suitable 2x2s (under $13) for me?
YuPo v2 M. It's magnetic and costs $6

The original MGC is really good, and is pretty comparable to the Valk and the MGC Elite, which are the main 2 cubes used by top solvers, but the MGC is only $10.

Hey, so I've been looking for a good cube that doesn't cost too much because I have been using my Meilong 3m for about a year. I heard that the Rs3m2020 is what most people recomend, but I have also heard that the core of this cube has problems with stripping. I would really like to buy this cube but i am worried that the core on mine would have this problem too. Is this still happening on new rs3m's and does it happen often?
I think the meilong m is fine rn, and they’re both comparable. You should probably look beyond the RS3M 2020 for a solidly better cube, but it may fit you better

i find the rs3 a great cube but no matter i much fancy luber put into it or how much break in, it is a boring cube to turb. but it a really nice one and is hard to beat. if you are a beginner though and are upgrading from lets say a Rubik's brand it is a great cube to come from whithout it being overwhelming (when i got my fist speed cube i kept over tuning and dropping it) as for the core it was maidly annoying at first but for some reason by flipping over the washer the nose went down a significant level and i can barley notice it by solving. Now it is my warm up cube and i would recommend the rs3 m 2020 edition to you. also it is nice start to cubing customization.

I realize I should have asked this before I bought 2 cubes, but I didn't know the forum existed when I bought them. Here is the scenario, I can buy any cube I want to matter the price or availability. However I can only buy one (of each kind) and never buy a cube of that type/size again. I'm not paying so money doesn't matter, and can't trade, that counts as getting a new cube. I am a beginner, but am interested in getting much better. So which ones are recommended for beginner to pro, and will last a lifetime. I don't live anywhere near a pro shop, so any adjusting would need to be done easily by me. My eyes are terrible, so most DYI mods I wouldn't be able to do. I know there are a plethora of types and sizes, but I don't mind combing through ideas, and making a list. (I don't expect one person to know them all haha) Or if there is a better way to get the info for this scenario let me know. I am terrible at forums.

You need to buy lube to make most cubes better and longer lasting.
for 2x2 the MGC Elite is considered best.
for 3x3 there are many choices. Tengyun V2M is most adjustable. But not that many main it.
for 4x4-7x7 MGC is a solid choice.

if money is no factor I would get the 11m pro.
though you should know that the cube doesn't matter that much and you can get record times on a $5 speedcube.

6x6: MGC
7x7: Hays 7 M (Right?)
Pyraminx: Gan Pyraminx Enhanced, X Man Bell V2
Skewb: Gan Enhanced skewb, MoYu Aoan skewb

For 5x5 I prefer the MGC or Aochuang WR M more. Also, I think the YJ pyraminx and QiYi MS pyraminx are pretty good. They’re quite similar to the X Man Bell V2 (I mean corner cutting and smoothness, different cubes have different feels), but a lower price. If you want the best pyraminx, get the Gan Enhanced. It has very good corner cutting. And for square-1, the Yuxin little magic is good enough to get PBs and PRs.

If you’re talking about the feel, I think the QiYi MS is better. However, if u want better corner cutting, ofc get the Gan Enhanced. I think good corner cutting is pretty important on pyraminx cuz it’s not a 90-degree turn, but 120. I don’t think you will practice pyraminx more than the NxN events, so it’s quite hard to turn accurately. That’s why many people want a pyraminx with good corner cutting.

2x2: Valk 2 M
3x3: Gan 11 M Pro (not necessarily the best, but it can be customized to suit a lot of different turning styles)
4x4: Aosu WRM (pretty split between this and the MGC, but I think more high-level people main the WRM)
5x5-7x7: MGC
Pyraminx: Gan Enhanced
Megaminx: Dayan v2
Skewb: Gan Enhanced
Square-1: wait for the MGC, but if you need it now, then do the X-Man Volt v2
Clock: Qiyi

Are all 4x4s as difficult to reassemble as the Shengshou? Genuinely considering smashing mine with a hammer rather than lose any more of my time and sanity putting it back together, but if there's no point I'll … I don't know, probably just give up on 4x4 altogether.

Buy a better cube anyway, like either of the YJ magnetic cubes.

Oh, for sure, I wasn't expecting much out of something I paid £4 for. Just thinking, there's probably more than one good cube out there and if one of them is less painful to deal with, I'm inclined to go with that right now.

4x4s are all very difficult to assemble, it is doable though, I made a video a while back attempting to explain how to do it but it isn't an easy thing to explain.
If you want to get good at 4x4 I would recommend spending a bit more on something like the mgc 4x4

I was afraid of that :-\ Is it possible to lubricate without fully disassembling it?
