I need a new cube. I have been using a Fangshi Shuang-ren for a little over a year and I hate it. It locks up and it feels so tight but its so loose I get frequent corner twists. I have been looking at the tanglong. The Aolong GT looks good but i have no idea how good it is because no ones posted reviews. Any recommendations?

I use the Zhanchi over the Aolong V2 because the turning is faster.

The hualong is pretty fast and I've heard the GT is as well

The Tanglong is a slower cube so if you want a faster cub the ones above will work better.

probably wait for some reviews but if you cant wait and are on a budget, thunderclap. If not then i would just wait for some reviews of the aolong gt. the tanglong is also quite good i think..

Yeah, you have a point there. My only worry is that the timer will move / fall to the floor if not attached to the thingies the Gen3 mat has

Yeah but it would be a hassle to tape it and untape it every time. Well, I can always get the Gen3 and put another mat on top of it (or underneath).

You could glue on some friction pads.

Some big cubes? Like 6x6 & 7x7 if you don't have those. We don't know what you like so it's difficult to make suggestions. Maybe some non-WCA puzzles?

Buy a Stackmat timer and display and donate it to your local WCA delegate/organizer.

ShuangRen - Too fast and uncontrollable
ZhanChi - A little blocky and the edges are a bit sharp
WeiLong - Excellent and controllable. Feels like a smoother, more refined ZhanChi but still a bit blocky
AoLong - Excellent and a bit more bubbly than the WeiLong with better corner cutting but a bit less controllable

It's a toss-up between the WeiLong and AoLong for me.

Mini JieYun same price as shuangren, weilong and aolong mini's, but (IMO) better performance.

Yuxin fire. For under $6 you really can't beat it. On loose tensions it pops a bit during extreme corner cutting, but tighten it and it'll be fine. The corner cutting is only a bit worse than my tanglong. My only complaint about it is that it's kinda slow when it's tight.
Also, why $6? For a few more dollars you can get the first yuxin 3x3 or Qiyi thunderclap, which are much better.

Cubezz has the thunderclap (thunderbolt) for less than $6, it is pretty much everything you mentioned, and even better with maru soft springs.
