Unknown Solve Method

Talked to a friend who got the 3x3 when he was 14 (around the time they first came out). He taught himself, and although it's been 30+ years since he messed with one, he was showing me how he did it. He got his first layer in, then sacrificed his first layer edges to get the second layer edges. He reinserted the first layer edges afterwards. Is there a method out there like that, or did he invent it himself? Didn't see anything of the sort when I searched. We didn't get around to the final layer.

It sounds like an inefficient version of Salvia so he may have talked to someone who was experimenting although I do think that it's entirely possible to work out the F2L by yourself so that's what he may have done. It would have been very interesting to see his last layer as that would really have told us if he made up the method. considering it was the early 1980s he came up with it it's entirely possible he did. If so, props to him.

Not in competition though

At home it's okay to use it, but I don't see why you would

Yeah it has. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i8HlzaaRv8 I'm not sure if this is actually against regs or not.

Edit: Ok, so when I saw this I assumed he just used it in place of a 3x3, but apparently I'm wrong. " it was a fun-event, in germany and slovenija are sometimes events like mastermorphix, mirror blocks or team solves." -Seppomania. Sorry, looks like I'm wrong. :p
