wait wait, what do you mean by "which is correct" (I don't want to know). If you can buy traxxas from any local hobby store. if not try something like shampoo or ketchup (preferably shampoo).

I'm not sure about shampoo cause I tried soap once and that did not work very well and it made the cube gummy afterwards.

Try something like Diprobase or similar, you should be fine with most things as long as it isn't solvent based.

Someone please put T-1 lube in an AoLong GT

I thought of this last night and I have a feeling that the result will be hilarious, so if anyone has a bottle of T-1 and an AoLong GT they don't like I think it would be an amazing experiment

If anyone is going to try this, please post the result on YouTube

Butter, Bacon fat, cooking oil as lube.

Has anyone tried butter, margarine, bacon fat, animal fat or vegtable oil or any cooking oil as a Rubiks cube lubricant ??

okay so i recently bought a yuxin zhisheng 3x3 at a competition and out of the box it was just fabulous. amazing speed, corner cutting, crispy feel (i love that) and what not
so now this has replaced my hualong and i also like the blocky feel.
now i've done about 200 solves so can u pls tell me after how much time should i break it in and lube it. and i'm a nub at lubing so like which lube do u recommend for my cube.
i get great times with it and it has great speed and that speed is perfect for me. but it also locks up a bit.
so is there a lube which would reduce lock ups, do not make it gummy (i dont like that feeling), maintain the same speed and fluidity. is it possible? can this be done with maru? or do i need to buy some other lube like cubicle? and i watched ubercuber's how to make your yuxin 3x3 spectacular but in that he uses weight 5 which is a high viscosity lube and makes it gummy.
sorry for this long message but pls help me if such a lube is available. even if it doesnt reduce lockups by a huge amount, but after lubing the cube should retain the 'out of the box' features.

If you like how the cube feels right now, my recommendation is "don't touch it". If and when you see that the cube starts to lose performance because the lube dries out, there is some cleaning needed, you want to get rid of spring noise in the core, etc. then you can think about disassembling and lubing. I would recommend high viscosity lube for the core (like cubicle weight 5), so that it lasts longer and, depending on your preferences a lower viscosity silicone for the pieces or perhaps Maru lube or a combination of both. Regarding the worries about making the cube gummy, it depends more on the amount of lube you put than the viscosity (of course that also plays a role). So, as it is much easier to add lube than remove an excess of it, I would recommend to start by putting just a tiny bit and adding more later if necessary. This applies both to the core and pieces. I know what I'm talking about as I have a Mini Weilong that still pours lube whenever I take it out of the box :) This is a trial an error process so, if you are not sure what "just a tiny bit" might mean in this context I mean a tiny, tiny bit. Like, for example, I have lubed the cores or maybe 8 cubes with less than half a 5cc syringe of weight 5 silicone. That's approx. 15 cubes with 1 sirynge (3 cubes with just 1cc). If you are going to also put Maru in the pieces (it makes the cube very fast but the effect lasts only for some days, a week at most), put just 2 drops in between the pieces and let it spread by randomly scrambling. There are many video tutorials available about how to lube a cube with silicone oil. I just follow more or less Cubeologist's tutorial for "How to Lube and Tension a MoYu AoLong".

so u mean that i should like not use this cube much for a few days. then when i think it needs breaking in, then i'll replace the springs with maru cx3 and for the core i'll use weight 4/5 and for the pieces i can use maru ( like just remove one piece and put some maru in there)
thanks a lot for the suggestion!:tu

What?!? I didn't say that you should not use the cube much and I didn't say anything about replacing the springs either. If you like so much how it feels, why would you change anything, much less replace the springs?

okay sorry i interpreted it wrong. so i must do like more solves before breaking in. and about the springs, well that's recommended by many to change the springs in yuxin 3x3

and about lubing- for core weight 4/5
for pieces maru or weight 1/2

I know many people recommends changing the springs but why would you do it if you already like the feeling of the cube? Well, if you just want to try, of course, you can try, but the results might well disappoint you. Anyway, if you can affort it... Regarding lube I'd recommend weight 5 for the core (but 4 will probably do) and 3 for the pieces, but that's my preference, weight 1 and 2 are a bit too runny and I don't like my cubes to be too fast (and uncontrollable). But it depends on personal preference and also each cube is different (and the amount of lube you apply, which can make a huge difference, as I said).

Is vaseline any good or does it eat away the plastic?

Any form of petrleum jelly is not very good for the plastic of cubes. But what you can do is if you don't have any other lube, you may lube it with vaseline and after a few days you must properly clean the pieces and then put some better lube in it. I tried lubing a cube with vaseline once but now its really heavy and I do not like the feeling

Lube Substitutes for a 2x2

I have a Dayan Zhanchi 2x2 and a Dayan Zhanchi 3x3 that I recently purchased, I am fairly new to speedcubing and well, solving cubes in general, although my skill level isn't exactly expert-tier I would still like a free moving cube that I will be able to learn algorithms and techniques with and develop the muscle memory required to do so. But what I am finding is that my cubes turn, well, not so fast and I would like to discover the full potential of my new cubes, I'm assuming Dayan Zhanchi cubes are able to be lubed, but I don't have any "Cube Lube". What I do have, however, is skate lube, Bones Bearing Speed Cream to be exact. Now to my point, Will I be able to use this in my cubes and will it work well? If anyone has some past experience or just knowledge on this sort of thing it would be much appreciated. :D Thank You!

Have a look at the ingredients. If it contains any petroleum then don't use it as that will degrade the plastic. In addition, you should have a think about how thick it is. Too thick and it may make turning smoother but may also may the turning slightly slower though it could be good for the core.

That said, I don't really think you "need" lube on many of the newer cubes it just feels nicer.
