Hi! I average 1:15 with f2l and 4ll. How can I get my times down?(the guide says I should average 40 seconds)

I can guarantee your cross and F2L are not as efficient as they could be, so definitely watch some walkthrough solves to see things you can improve. Besides that, make sure you're using a good cube. If you're using a Rubik's brand, definitely get a speedcube (even something cheap, like a QiYi Sail or an MF3RS). Above all though, the most important thing is to practice a ton. If you do 100 solves, I bet you'd be sub-1. 1000 and you'll be sub-45 (or maybe even faster; this really depends on the person). :)

Thanks! I don't need to get a new cube(I use Gans UM) so I just need to get better at cross and f2l.

Also I like your YouTube channel :)(I am subscribed)

I picked up the cube religiously for around 4 months and then took some time off until last week.

The cross I complete on the bottom and usually in under six seconds. I'm never stuck on how to solve a case in F2L as I learnt pretty much all the F2L cases via a tutorial on Youtube. Most of F2L either by ALG of Intuition is Intuitive to me now. The only problem I have in F2L is that I cant do all cases from all angles and often rotate the cube.

I use 2 Look OLL & PLL to solve the last layer. I can recognise all of the PLL's as I learnt them at the start but I've forgotten most of them so reverted back to lool 2PLL. I use a GANS AIR speed cube.

I'm always sub 1 minute. But I can see that people who know what I do technically are getting sub 30. Even this strategy which seems accurate has me down at a target time of just over 30 seconds...

Am I just bad at cubing :(

Considering how recent you seem to have learned everything it's going to take a little time for all the algs/techniques to really get integrated into your muscle memory and fluidly into your solves. It's just something that will take practice and getting used to. At first when you learn F2L you will often slow down a heap because it's still a new concept and you need to think about how to solve a particular case. Even if you say that you know all the cases there may still be pauses required for recognition and remembering the corresponding alg/how to solve it. Don't be disheartened by being stuck at a barrier - it took me a lot longer than 4 months to reach sub-30 - just keep at it by doing a ton of solves and work on efficiency and recognition. Speed will then come naturally.

No you really aren’t bad at cubing. Just work on f2l and your cross so that you can plan those during inspection. It worked for me. Also watch walkthrough solves by faster people such as Chris Olson to learn how they work the cube.

How do I increase my TPS, look ahead, cross(I use M slices rn takes around 10 sec), and f2l(30 sec).

How do I break the 13-second barrier? My cross + F2l is sub-10 on average, and I know and use full OLL, PLL and COLL minus the sune and antisune cases. Any general tips? My cross could probably use improving...
Also what should my splits be for cross, F2L, OLL, and PLL?

What are your splits right now for cross and f2l individually? I'm asking because I average around 9-ish seconds (8 on a good day), and our last layers take around the same time, so it's definitely one of those you'll want to work on next

I think my cross is around 1.5-2 seconds on average, and F2L takes 7-7.5 seconds.

Hello

So I started cubing about 3 weeks ago, currently I average about 1:40 on CFOP.

Cross: 15seconds avg
F2l: 1 minute Avg
Oll: 15 seconds avg
Pll: 10 seconds avg.

I’m using a YJ Yulong, and using 2 look oll. Ive been trying for ages now but can really get faster than 1:20. Any tips?

Cross will never take more than 8 moves if you do it optimally, so for starters, try getting it down to 10-12. Even if you're just turning at 1-2 TPS, your cross can still be sub-10, or even sub-5. Make a good use of your inspection time. Your goal should be to be able to blindfold yourself after inspection and do the entire cross from memory.

F2L can always improve, so try doing slow, untimed solves to work on efficiency.

As far as OLL and PLL, I recommend just turning faster and working on recognition. 10-15 seconds is a pretty long time to do 2 algorithms.

The biggest thing at this point though is just to practice. I guarantee that if you do 100 more solves, you'll average sub-1:20 or maybe even sub-1.

I did look at the CFOP thread but it doesn't really match up with the way I've been learning it so I thought I'd make a separate thread.

I'm currently sub-60 (3x3) with a cube that isn't a speedcube and my PB is 40 seconds. I'm using CFOP with 2 look OLL and PLL. Is it best to work more on getting faster at F2L or try to learn 1 look OLL/PLL? And why?

1 look OLL has 57 algorithms and seems as though it'll take a long time to learn - how much time does 1 look save compared to 2 look and would it just be easier to work on F2L for now?

(Edit: I haven't really been cubing for that long)

At your speed it really doesn't matter what you practise as you'll improve as long as you just practise.

In general though (and it's very hard to say without splits/videos etc) cross to F2L transition and F2L to F2L transition seem to be the parts that slow down most people initially.

I suppose you could also start learning some of PLL as you already know a some of the algs and the earlier you start practising the easier learning algs becomes.

Just as a final sidenote since you're new to speedsolving you may want to have a look at some other methods as you may find them more enjoyable/easier/more to your taste.

Probably one of the best and most underrated things that you should practice is inspection time. When you can inspect to your first pair, cross to f2l transition can be seamless, and it makes f2l lookahead easier. You don't need to inspect your entire cross and first pair right now, In fact you should probably not even worry about it at all right now. Right now, just practice f2l and find good efficient cases. Just something to think about for when you get to that point. I use this website to practice: http://net13.net/Cube/Cross/
