So, my F2L is 13 seconds, but I'm 18 global. Cross is ~1.5.

Ideas?

F2L including cross is 13 seconds and LL is 5 seconds? That's a fast last layer, man! Maybe you're turning too fast in F2L and having less than optimal lookahead? Just my wild guess, without a video it is difficult to say.

Hi there, about a week ago i was at 2 min 30 sec as well and the I learned the Fridrich method which actually slowed my times down for a couple of days. I learned 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL from youtube and F2L and after practicing the algorithms enough so it was muscle memory. Now my average is 45 sec and is still improving. Just learn the Fridrich method and practice a lot, people say you don't improve overnight but one day my average was 55 sec and i woke up the next day and it was 45 sec so keep practicing.

try to get a solid ~10-12 hours in in a week and you should see improvement quickly, you should be able to sub 1 it with beginner method. as for last four corners you probably use R' D' R D correct? do a x' and U' R' U R, it is much faster

Hey yea that is the alg i use to solve the last for corners. What is x'? I have been practicing alot i am going to do it for a little bit more before bed and tmw i am going to retime myself. Also im gonna youtube 2 look oll and pll or whatever lol

Guys, my cube seems extremely loose. I dont like it. Something is definitely different because its definitely looser than normal and its messing me up. I have a yulong, what can i do to fix it? I feel like its gonna fall apart its so loose. Please reply!!!

take the caps off and tighten the screws. Yulongs can do that can't they?

I watched a bunch of youtube videos and it said to tighten them all the way and then rotate each one an equal amount looser and i chose to do 45 degrees each time on each screw and it just doesnt seem right. Like right now i cant do a corner cut 45 degrees on any side but one side i can do like a 50 degree. Its all uneven and it seems like some sides are looser than others and i tried tightening all the screws as far as they go and doing it again but i guess i am doong it wrong or my cube is messed up im not sure..

Im not entirely sure what exactly im looking for as far as tension. I like to have a 45 degree corner cut on each side but i dont like it when sides move super easily because while im solving sides move that i dont want to move but if i tighten it more then i cant corner cut

Idk what to do im going to order a different cube. Any suggestions?

I tend to do it the other way: tighten from the loosest

Well my original post here was on topic and im still trying to get advise for it but i hit a little snare so i incorporated this into the convo.

And can you do that? Loosen all the way? Im afraid it will fall apart if i do that?

You will disassemble it anyway for maintenance. So yes it does fall apart but it's not broken if it does.

So I'm aiming for sub 10 now, so firstly here is an avg of 12 of just the cross, I average high 13s on a full solve, so is my cross good enough for sub 10?
here is the average of 12
2.013, 1.781, 2.053, 1.513, 0.988, 2.130, 0.580, 1.280, 1.530, 1.880, 1.145, 1.352, 1.300 = 1.48 avg 12

yeah, probably. cross execution is important, but when doing cross practice, try to lookahead to first pair as well. thats what'll get u sub 10 after that just work on F2L and you'll be there. (im guessing your LL is good enough already)

I'm currently sub 18, Ao100 around 17 and best Ao5 was just under 15. I've noticed my cross is absolutely ABYSMAL, sometimes 2.5-3 seconds on a bad solve, and I have almost no first pair recognition. Are there any good video guides to advanced Cross/X-Cross? I'm generally a white cross solver, trying to become a W/Y cross solver, and even experimented with being color neutral, although I think that's not entirely practical at this point. I normally have 7-8 move crosses, but sometimes execute it poorly, and hardly ever see first pair. When I see walk-through solves, I feel that a large majority of solves are able to utilize some kind of X-Cross, how do I train and improve?

Just go slowly. You can turn a bit slower in your cross to find your first f2l. If you can memorise your cross, then you can do it without looking and look for your f2l pair while you are doing your cross. The X-cross will not always be worth it. I don't know of a good tutorial though...
Just practice your cross and F2l, you don't need to keep doing the whole cube. And practise slower

Does someone have critique for this solve by me (posted here rather than in the solve critique thread cause no video)

scramble: F2 D L2 U' L2 R2 F2 U F2 D' B2 F' D2 U' F' L U L2 B F' R
inspection: x2
cross: R D R' U' R' F
1st pair: R' U R
2nd pair: y' U' R U' R' U2 y L U' L'
3rd pair: y' U' R U R' U2 R U R' U' R U R'
4th pair: y R U R' U2 R U R' U' R U R'
OLL: M U R U R' U' M' R' F R F'
PLL: U2 F' U' F R2 u R' U R U' R u' R2

I just have the feeling I'm terribly inefficient.

I don't think your solution works...try it again

EDIT: nevermind, switched y and y' again, anyway..

everything up til 4th is fine, to avoid the dot case, you could've paired it up with U R U' R' U' R U' R' sledgehammer to avoid the dot case

but that dot case is usually fast for me, if you think you're inefficient you might have lock ups or slow lookahead I'm guessing? there's not much wrong with the solution

It isn't terrible, you just need to stop with the all the rotations. rotate only when absolutely necessary. Try doing some partial edge control to avoid those dot cases, and are you color neutral? If not, try a bit. It will help with cross inefficiencies.

Okay, so how to avoid the rotations in those cases? I've always been using only <R,U> to solve my pairs, only recently I allow me to include L moves as well but others feel awkward.
Partial edge control: Alright. By the way, this was one of the few OLLs I know at all.
I always solve the white cross although I plan to become dual color neutral.
