hey guys thanks for all the help haha i didn't think anyone would reply so fast. i think i really just need to work on my f2l, look ahead recognize more patterns

one last thing: call it cfop, not fridrich. It's more accurate.

Yes, call it CFOP, not the Fridrich method.

omg i googled xs and os method :o for those who don't know it's just corners first, but i didn't check out the actual steps. the guy in the video is so uninformed it's funny.

Haha, I also happened to come across a post somewhere by the guy who invented X's and O's. He said that CFOP is inefficient (*cough, cough*). I haven't watched the video but I can imagine how funny it would be. Anyway stick with CFOP or maybe learn Petrus or Roux. (You can read this post to decide.

i would say your cross and last layer are pretty good. probably just work on reducing pauses in f2l.

I have taken splits specifically of the cross and those confirm my assumptions in that, 90% of the time finishing the cross takes me between 1.2s to 2.6s. The mean time of these 90% is around 2 seconds.

But I have also discovered two things:
- I sometimes take some time to find the 1st F2L pair after the cross
- The other 10% of the time, the really bad cases, take me 4 or more seconds to finish, which is something I wasn't aware of.

So I think there are some things I still have to improve in my cross and in my transition to F2L.

When you guys became sub 20, did a lot of your times suddenly become under 20 seconds out of nowhere?

Not yet there, sadly :( But I hope I'll get there soon. I'm only sub-22 right now and lately I get like 16% to 25% sub-20s. I hope that will change to more than 50% in some months :)

How has it been for you?

Yep I dropped my time by 4 seconds from nowhere a few months ago. But now I am stuck with 15 seconds for 4 months :(

Interesting. I've been stuck at 21/22 ish for about a year. I know it's long it was just so frustrating I lost interest in cubing for a while but yesterday I relubed my Zhanchi, because the lube had worn off. Then I did an Ao50 (19.99) to break it in and I basically broke all my pbs. All my pbs in my signature are from that average. I suddenly got a lot more sub 20 solves. This is all very sudden and I hope it's a good sign. I am currently working on an Ao100 to see what it comes out too. I'm now doing an average of cross + f2l to assess my speed. Also am trying to find out my splits.

I've also been stuck or, to be more precise, improving very, very slowing for like half a year, also in the range of the 23s - 22s - 21s. I will persevere, then :)
How long were you without practicing? Did you forget any algorithms in that time?

Well actually I didn't forget any algorithms, and I still kept cubing. I just didn't really try to get better. I would just time myself sometimes but got discouraged from doing much because my times weren't improving. Now I'm going to time my cross + F2L frequently. I noticed that my sub 20 times came from remaining calm during F2L, and looking ahead. Even though I saw some pairs I could make, I made them slower so I would be able to pair up the next pair without much delay. I am now trying to slow down during F2L and increase my tps once I get to the last layer. Turning slower during F2L and looking for the next pair while making the current pair can be really helpful. It seems tempting to go faster during F2L, but going slower really does improve your times.

When ever I got times that are 20+ seconds, I look back at my solve and realize that it was my F2L in that solve that slowed me down. In some solves I waste time between pairs and that is when I don't get sub 20 times.

yes, an aolong will definitely help you along with practicing finger tricks, you will suddenly drop about 25 seconds with a good speedcube but to get any farther you will need to practice

No.

A new cube will lower your limits, but you're not just going to "suddenly drop". You have to get used to a new cube, and get used to doing fingertricks in the first place.

That's exactly the feeling I'm starting to have. When I get really good times (15-18) it's the F2L that makes the difference but it is hard to do that solve after solve. Thanks for your feedback.

Yes I recently hit sub-20 and didn't feel like my "typical" solves were faster at all. What happened was I suddenly started getting a lot more 17-18 solves.

Yeah, a lot more of my solves are now under 20 seconds. This started happening two days ago. Finally improvement after a long period of frustration. It has given me a lot more motivation to get even faster now.

Me too. I have recently discovered

"Lookahead"

lol no lookahead just spamming TPS got me to 22 sec allele
