This.....

...and this.....

I'm 38... can I even get sub 25?

We are the rule-breakers! I say us veterans show up these kids and go sub 10 by March!

I'm all seriousness, I think anyone can be a fast as they want (within reason) given enough time. While a 13 year old can fit 8 hours of cubing in to a day, I'm lucky to fit in 1, so what takes them 12 months to achieve will take me 8 years...

It depends what limits you. Personally, I feel lookahead holds me back more than dexterity, which is good because one can be learnt more readily than the other!

I do believe reason dictates that my limits are way above a 6.54 second average, due to age as well as lack of talent. But that's OK, I'm only doing it for fun.

Regarding progression, I remain convinced that what works for a kid one-third my age who got sub-20 in 2 months isn't necessarily going to work for me. In particular, since TPS improves so slowly even with lots of practice, I need to prioritize eliminating pauses instead, for quicker wins.

how to improve CFOP??(mainly for CFOP users)

well i mainly use CFOP though i know many methods.....
my average is
1.cross-3secs
2.F2L-16secs
3.OLL-4secs
4.PLL-5secs

so as you may see my problem lies with F2L so i am asking does any of you have the same problem like a problem in oll,pll,f2l or cross

Are you asking if any CFOP users have a problem with any of the stages in CFOP?

I think the answer is 'yes', there are no CFOP users who have perfected all stages of the method, and this should go in the one-answer question thread.

If, on the other hand, you're asking how to get faster at CFOP, you should have read the 'read this before posting' message, along with some of the hundreds of threads and posts that already exist on this topic.

Edit: yeah, my cross sucks too!

You have much more room to improve in F2L instead of LL. The very best cubers have about 4-5 second F2L and 2-3 second LL. So your LL is pretty good but still needs work. But the biggest difference by far is in F2L.

Although you could also just improve your LL and still get 14.5 with a 10 second F2L you would have better improvement if you keep F2L as one of your main priorities since it is a majority of a solve. I didn't really take this advice and just focused on LL until I realized that no matter how good I got at last layer if my F2L was over 10 seconds I was not going to meet my goals.

And the reason that your individual averages of the steps is faster is because that extra second is most likely recognition between the transitions from F2L to LL.

Thanks. I'll try to get my F2L to be sub-10 consistently. It shouldn't be that hard if I actually put in effort; upon analyzing my solves I realized that I rarely look ahead I have a lot of free brain power during solves because it's becoming mindless. I guess that's because I don't try to plan ahead. To work on lookahead I go!

I think a lot of people around the 15 second mark could benefit from reminding themselves each solve to try to lookahead. We have made so much progress without looking ahead that is kind of like a bad habit. Now I naturally lookahead without thinking but I remember starting off sessions telling myself to lookahead and then 50 solves later find myself not lookingahead anymore. Make it a priority each solve to lookahead until you don't even have to remind yourself and for each bad solve ask were you looking ahead.

I'm 41 with a sub 30 target. I'm sure it's possible but progress is so slow. My main problem is F2L recognition. I'll often look over a whole cube twice and not find an edge piece. At least my LL is improving. I have a few new algorithms where I can recognise the cases and execute quicker than just using beginner's method.

I am averaging about 13 1/2 to 15 seconds, and I was doing some slow solves the other day when I noticed that my last F2L slot to OLL has absolutely terrible recognition. How can I fix this? Should I practice a lot of LL + last F2L, do slow solves, or just practice like I usually do?

I got faster at fridrich!

:)Thank you soooo much! I before averaged 30 to 40 seconds but now I average 22- 30 seconds!

How far do you think I can go with cross on top, then rotating to do f2l?

I'm currently sub-20 like that.

Also, is going slow for F2L then going full speed on LL a good idea?

I think you can have nice times with cross on top but i don't see a reason why not doing cross on the bottom

Well the fingertricks are generally better with cross on bottom, plus you should be able to plan the cross and not need to look at the pieces, making cross on top redundant. Thus allowing you to search for an F2L pair, which isn't done with cross on top.

Going slow for F2L is part of the process of gaining look-ahead skills. Turning slowly isn't in itself a good thing, it is just that slow turning + no pauses is better than fast turning + pauses. The aim, of course, is to turn fast with no pauses, and that's when you're good.

You can, if you practice much and try solvinf the f2l and cross blind.
My cousind brother got sub 20 in 4 months and it is 2 months now since I am speedcubing and I am sub 30 :)
That's good progress, well done.

It would be great to hear from anyone who's over 40 years old and sub-15. So far I haven't seen anyone who fits that profile.

Good idea ;)

When I actually put brain power into solves I get sub 10 averages, which are about a second faster than normal. The issue is remembering to do it for an ao100..
