Thanks.. Also, when you guys said "find F2L algs," do you mean trying to memorize them like normal algs or just seeing how they work?

Should I look over them in a certain order or just review them when I bump into a case during a practice solve?

I would not worry about looking up specific algs just yet. When you get a "hard" case, slow down the solve and try to think through a good way to solve it. Looking up algs for specific cases is usually better done once you are very comfortable with most cases.

19.28 F2L average of 12! Help Please!

I have decided that the only way to see how and why I was slow was to time individual steps of CFOP. I've realized on average, my F2L(including cross) takes almost 20 seconds! That is BAD! I average about 27.25 seconds on the entire 3x3. I have been cubing for months and it's hard for me to look ahead! I think my move count is high as well. I think I do 4-6 rotations on average every solve. Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp! Practice doesn't seem to help. Maybe it's because I have inefficient F2l?

Watch some example solves, felix has 2 new ones on youtube, and see how they solve their pairs. The best thing is to learn how to solve them without looking at the 2 pieces you are solving. That way as you are solving them you can look for your next two to reduce the time between each pair.

Just practice it. I couldn't possibly make a list of all the things I have picked up from just solving.

Need Help Learning F2L

trying to understand F2L and is having a hard time. anybody no a good website or video that will teach me. been searching with no luck. i bought a book but dont understand it well. thanks

A website can explain the concepts, but you can only develop intuition by actually using the cube. You'll just have to play around with it. Once you understand RUR' and RU'R' inserts, the rest is intuitive. Do triggers and see how they affect the pieces.

I have some doubts about F2l. My times are about 25-27 seconds. I know it is better to avoid cube rotations, infact I'm trying to solve F2l rotationless. About the insertion of pairs (with edges not oriented) there are two possibilities: the algs like r U R' U' m or the sledgehammer, both in the Front face and Back face. My question is: what is the faster way? I'd like to training in the better way in order to be sure to get faster. Thanks :)

I wouldn't use M algs for F2L personally, it just increases move count. It's quite easy to have an F2L with only 1/2 rotations and I think that's faster and better for lookahead.

Sledgehammer is a replacement for a simple RU insert, used in order to orient some edges. It's good in some situations. Hedgeslammer for inserting a misoriented pair can also be useful sometimes.

But, in your opinion, people who solve the cube under 15 sec do rotations or use M algs and sledgehammer?

Only when the M slices make another pair, or when it is better to use the M slice. In general, it's just not worth it. Sledgehammer is a good alternative to U R U' R' to avoid dot OLL cases, or in some cases, get an OCLL case.

Yes but I mean, if I have an F2l case in which for inserting a pair I have to do an Y rotation ( for example y U' L' U L) , it's better to use sledgehammer or M alg or continue to use rotations?

Have a look at some reconstructions of fast solves. Generally the fastest cubers seem to use simple <RUL> F2L with 1-2 rotations - with the occasional sledgehammer but usually very few algs or rotationless inserts (until the last pair).

I solve under 15 seconds, I never use M algs for F2L. I'll use sledgehammer for edge control, sometimes.

That's actually a hedgeslammer case. Sledgehammer starts with R/L, hedgeslammer starts with F/F'. Doing the F move first is awkward and I'll rarely use hedgelslammers except when my hands are in an abnormal position, sometimes after cross or an F2L case trick. I think it's faster to rotate and sledgehammer than regrip and hedgeslammer, for this case, so if I'm going to use edge control on that case, I'll rotate then do a left sledgehammer. (y L F' L' F)

Sorry I wanted to say hedgehammer. I got confused :-) where can i find written example solves for analyze how the other speedcubers do F2l?
