Vaseline

Vaseline melts the black plastic on the inside of the cube, but it does this very sloooowwwwlly...
When you take apart the cube, there'll be black dust mixed with leftover Vaseline. Gross.
So use CRC.

When I first attempted intuitive f2l, my time was about 4min!
Then as I watched badmephisto's vids, my time has improved a lot!

Ways to practice f2l look ahead?

i watched a video on it, but i still cant get it. i average 24-25, best avg of 5 is 22.xx. can anyone help?

In addition to the thread posted above, practice. I was stuck at 22 seconds for months. Looking back, at 22 you still have lots of room for improvement. It is hard to tell where you need the most help without knowing the breakdown of your solves. Is 22 for the F2L only or the entire solve? Work on cross lots. Plan it out in your head. With this, get it down sub-3 or even sub 2. Think about it, with that at 3 seconds per CE pair, you'd be averaging around 10-11 seconds for F2L. Recognition is just practice. Move slow, but continue. Moving fast with massive delays isn't any faster (or may be slower) than moving slow and looking for your next pair.

Thanks. My F2l with cross is about 13-16 seconds. im working on the cross

How to improve my F2L time? (read first pls)

I have been cubing for about a month now, I use CF4LL, and my average is about 42 seconds.

I currently use a stickerless guhong, that is unlubed (no hardware stores near) so its quite hard to turn, and I have it set VERY loose (to combat the fact that it isn't lubed) which results in lots of lock ups.

ANYWAY, my current time is mostly due to the fact that my F2L is sloooow.

I first learned F2L using Rido's hunting method (get pair in U face, seperated, then solve). From there I learned all the cases for having the edge in place, corner in U face, and all the cases for corner in place, edge in u face. So if the pair is together but not oriented, I simply put the corner in the correct slot and solve using the algs from these cases.

I started using lookahead, and I can see the next corner piece while I am inserting the pair at full speed, and I take like 0.3-0.5 seconds to find the edge and then continue.

Here is an AVG12 for f2l only (cross done, but without inspection for first pair):

Fridrich - F2L training
Apr 8, 2011 3:58:25 AM - 4:18:39 AM

Mean: 24.25
Standard deviation: 2.93
Best Time: 18.84
Worst Time: 29.71

Best average of 5: 22.54
8-12 - (26.18) 19.32 25.56 (18.84) 22.75

Best average of 12: 24.25

1. 23.09
2. 23.81
3. 24.46
4. 29.71
5. 26.98
6. 24.46
7. 25.87
8. 26.18
9. 19.32
10. 25.56
11. 18.84
12. 22.75

Why is my F2L still so slow? How can I improve it? Should I learn more cases (for pair together but oriented wrong)? Should I lookahead for both the corner and the edge?

Sorry for the alot of words :D

I am a slow cuber myself but at 24s F2L you are not going full speed and I bet your pauses are much longer than 0.3-0.5 seconds. I don't think the look-ahead is there yet.

I like Alots too!

Improve turning speed and lookahead, i can do f2l without lookah. faster. Just practice + try to work out better ways to solve pairs.(slow solves rock.)

If you're going to go the 'learn more cases' route, don't look them up. Pick a case, stare at it real hard, and figure it out. You said that you separate cases that are together. Start by looking at how you separate them and see if there's a better way to. Look backwards from solved - the two main ways to get an F2L pair into a slot are R U R' and R U' R'. Look at how you separate pieces, see if you can find a better way to get them into one of those cases. From there, maybe look at if the edge is in U and the corner is in D in the wrong place. Once you figure out one or two tricky cases on your own, more will come very quickly.

I am...

Well, to find the edge I take that long. I also pause in the step of seperating the edge and corner (if they are together and bad).

If you're going ...

Well, I learned all the cases intuitively by testing different approaches.

Reduce cube rotations.

I do know how to insert pairs from every angle, but I guess I'll try to adapt to different pairing angles too :)

Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated!

how to improve F2L ?

I am sub30 , I am kind of slow at f2l cause i do some useless cube rotations (i know they are bad) , and i think cause of that i can't get down sub25 .
I know 21PLL's
some like 10OLL's

So , what should i work on to improve my f2l ? I do it intuitively
