The lube does not make the cube. The lube HELPS but it's not a miracle worker on a bad cube.

It will not make the panshi smooth off the getgo, if you catch my drift. ;) :)

Me with lube:

Puts lube in. Plays with cube.
"It's too slow, must need more lube"
Adds more lube.

Repeat cycle 5 times

LOL Same thing to me sometimes. Depends on the lube and the cube some Solves or dry time will help it.

I'm only using a 60k for both core and pieces and I've gotten various results. I think it works very well for 3x3 cubes if you use an extremely small amount. Every time I lube a cube I use less than the time before with better results - my latest (third) Zhanchi is so fast I can barely control it. The difference between "just right" and overlubed is tiny though..

Tried it on a konsta-modded SS 4x4 but it feels like it's not fast enough. I'm not a very fast solver but it really feels like this cube would be better with a different lube.

Also lubed my Tomz/Calvin 4x4x6 and I don't think such high viscosity lube should be used with this cube. Even a small amount made it feel gummy/gluey and when I wiped off most of the lube (leaving about as much as I put in my fast Zhanchi) it went back to the dry catchy feeling of an unlubed puzzle.

Thinking about buying 30k Traxxas diff oil, or perhaps shock oil which I've heard is less viscous, and try it on my larger cubes and cuboids.

Larger cubes and cuboids need higher K dan the smaller ones, so if you have 60k, it is fine for the bigger ones. You don't take them apart as often, so higher is better.

If they feel gummy then you put too much lube in ;) :)

10k for the smaller cubes is peachy, 30k is maybe still too heavy.

Silicone spray

I am going to try the mod which taught in the link below
HTML:

He has mentioned that:
3. Lube core and pieces with Traxxas.
4. Lube screws with CRC.

I think it is difficult to find Traxxas and CRC in my country.
Can I just use any other silicone spray to lubricate both the locations stated in that two steps?

Just do the whole dealie with traxxas :) Just be careful to not overlube the cubies. If you do just take off the top layer, clean them with a tissue and pop them back in and solve a number of times. It'll take about 1/4 of the lube out that way :)

Does anyone know where to buy an empty Lubix-like syringe (preferably as big as possible, but it's fine if it isn't)? I want one to put my differential oil in.

Here at TheCubicle, 60cc ones are available. Larger ones not designed for cubing purposes are available too (on Amazon for example).

Hello all! I'm new to the forums and I've been reading a lot of posts via google search. I have a medium sized syringe of Lubix and I've been using it for all my small puzzles for 4 months now. I've got to say, the product is awesome. However, living in Finland (shipping cost) and adding the price tag I've come to the conclusion that Lubix is not quite worth the price for me and I've been looking for alternative lubes.

I recently ordered a 50cc bottle of Traxxas 50k wt differential oil, as I've heard it's pretty close to Lubix. Based on what I've read the 50k solution is somewhat slower and stickier than Lubix, and 30k is faster than Lubix. This leaves me with the impression, that Lubix is differential oil with a viscosity of something between 30 to 50k. I'm assuming it's around 40-43k. I searched some and found this calculator: http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/oil_mixer.html

To achieve say 42K viscosity one would then have to mix 66% 50K diff oil and 34% 30K diff oil. Has anyone tested this out? How easy is it to mix differential oils of different viscosity levels in the first place? Do you just pour them into a container and stir them with a stick?

Diff oils don't mix well. They separate. You would get 50k on bottom and 30k on top. Personally I've found that 30k is a bit faster and less gummy than lubix, thus why I like it more. Hope this helps!

Are you sure of this? Chemically they are made from the same ingredients and thus mixing should not end up in separated lube layers of different viscosities. Have you tried it or is this just a guess?

And I'm talking diff oil here, not shock oil. So the sticky stuff, not the runny one.

Hi!

I'm thinking of getting the combo pack of lube/stickers from rubiks.com. One question-is that lube decent enough for a rubik's brand cube and how long does it last, both for one lube and for the whole syringe.

Thanks,
