F2L Fast Pair Identification?

Hey Forum!

So.. I was looking at speed cubers and I'm *pretty* sure that they do fridrich f2l (excuse misspelling of fridrich..) and they do all 4 pairs in around 3 seconds... Are they doing intuitive f2l or do they just memorize the algs? Cause my record for a solve is 44 seconds (slow.. I know) and f2l takes like 30 seconds. I do intuitive f2l. Oll I have no problem with and I can always learn pll but f2l is always takes more than half my solve time.

they do intuitive f2l and learn algorithms for cases that are really slow to do intuitively. Dont worry about these algoritms until you have reached sub 25 and have learned 2 look oll and 2 look pll. Practice until f2l until you can do it under 20 seconds then practice looking ahead.

First thing's first--you spelled Fridrich correctly. =)
Intuitive's the way to go, imo. Learn algs for the stupid cases.

Most if not all the people you watched use intuitive f2l however it is reccomwnded u learn algs for ugly cases. Youre on the right track just keep practicing.

Those two imo, all other are pretty good.

Edit:

This one might be worth learning too.

I think it helps to know to do RUR'U' 3 times for this case, too :P

And as you get faster with F2L, improve your lookahead more and more. There's tons of videos about looking ahead and easier ways to do intuitive cases. Just search around :P

I suggest U R U' R' x3 for that case. It doesn't require a re-grip and flows easier. It's just the exact reverse so it does the same thing.

Errrrrrr i hate and love you for telling me this, it is faster, but i have gotten soooooo use dot the RUR'U' 3 times that this is going to change everything...............

^ Sarcasm?

I don't get how U R U' R' x3 is any quicker for that case, I work R U R' U' heapppps faster. Each to their own I guess.
I'm yet to learn any f2l cases myself or strictly practice lookahead and my times are around 30 seconds, my last avg 12 statistics showed these results;
Cross: 3.36
F2l: 16.18
PLL: 4.36
OLL: 4.32

So I'm thinking I still need to keep working on f2l and probably learn full PLL soon =P.

I agree with this guy ^

Intuitive doesn't make anything different lol.. It just makes you improve slower and make terrible habits.

Both are pretty fast when practiced. U R U' R' is useful when the C/E pair isn't in the correct slot. Given the case in the incorrect slot, if you do R U R U' x2, you'll get the basic F2L case which you have to move to the correct location to insert. If you do U R U' R' twice, you'll get the C/E pieces paired up and ready to go. This is especially useful if you couple it with pair preservation so that you can work on other pairs while you save the pair for later insertion.

Intuitive F2L is easier to use and faster than Algorithmic F2L. Its easier to learn and Improve and its what the WR holder uses. It is very different to Algorithmic F2L because you do whatever you see first, instead of Case Recognition, then Alg Recollection, then Alg Execution which for F2L is mush slower.
