Hello Guys,

I need some help on getting faster for 3x3. I am having some trouble with getting under 35sec. I use the MF3RS2 and use the method CFOP. Does anyone know what I could do to get faster?

Any help would be great! :)

Thanks!

How long have you been stuck at this barrier? Imo you don't really have to do anything too special to break sub-35, 30 and even all the way to sub-25. Just keep at it with consistent practice and you'll see your times drop soon enough.

However, if you've been stuck for a considerable amount of time, I recommend making sure your F2L is reasonably efficient (check to see that you're not 'wasting moves' building and inserting F2L pairs) and checking that your LL algs are good (i.e. don't fall into the trap of learning bad algs because they're easy to memorise). Check out example solves to help develop your F2L efficiency and for algs, use alg.db or have a look at alg compilations that some youtubers make for their OLL/PLL which are usually some of the 'better' algs that are fingertricky and can be made quite fast. Have a look and see which ones you like. Good luck!

Ok...Thanks for all the info :)

Yes, And what are your splits?

example-

Cross- 5.34 seconds
F2L- 22.50
OLL- 3 seconds
PLL- 5

Total- 35.84

You can do this on CS timer.

Ok,so i know Beginner method from 2-3 years.I make some breaks, but i managed to get a PB of 32.001 on a Gan's 356 Air SM.I know it's time to learn CFOP but i just don't know how to start.I can do F2L intuitively,i watched some videos on YouTube and now it's seems to be very easy to make pairs and to insert them in the right place. But the algorithms seems so hard to understand. What should I do?
Also, after i will know F2L with algs what is the next step:4LLL or PLL or OLL first?
Thanks in advance.

PS:English is not my "main" language so don't blame me for grammatical issues.

Like the others said, if you understand F2L, there's no point in learning algs. Very few people learn algorithmic F2L; it's better to understand the cases so you can improvise if you need to.

I'd recommend you learn 4LLL now. After that you should work on full PLL, and finally full OLL.

Thanks very much for advice.I will come in the future with rezults and maybe more questions!

Hi folks,
I started cubing last December when my company gifted each of us a cube (with the firm values on the faces!) and have since them managed to start a few colleagues cubing as well.
I solved the cube within a day by following a tutorial, and then learnt the beginner's method by heart in a couple of days of practice. Since then I have snuck in a few solutions every night, but mostly I practiced during the weekends.
My average at the moment is 1'50" or thereabout, with a personal best of 1'20"; I am currently using a GTS2 (which I think is almost wasted on me, but still).
Now, I know that I need much more practice to improve my times, but I was wondering when it was recommended to switch to a more advanced method. Does it make sense for me to keep practicing with the beginner's method, so that I can focus on improving my brain-hands coordination and speed, or is it best for me to switch to CFOP now?
It takes me about 15 s to do the white cross, but I am improving fast on that... Used to be about 25 s a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for any advice or comments.

Tonight I managed to focus a little more and my times dropped about 10 seconds. Actually my first 3of5 was 1'35" with three sub-1'30", and I was still pretty fast (well, less slow) later on.
Later, I watched the first part of badmephisto tutorial on FLL and I tried the first two cases; I'm really bad at it, but the video is pretty clear, so I guess I just need practice. I wonder if anybody ever put those two videos in print?

Check out Alg.db for f2l algorithms. But it is best to learn them intuitive. By “hiding” and then pairing F2l pairs. J perm has a goo video, but I dont think thats what you are looking for. I would still check it out for help with intuitive F2L. Hope it helps!

Edit- With F2L you will get slower before you get faster, for sure. And it won’t be easy, but nothing worthwhile is. Oh and not to throw more on you, but try to learn 4 look last layer. I think Paradox Cubing has a good video.

Edit 2- Oh I don’t know what your cubing goals are, but check out Roux and ZZ they may be easier to you.

Hello!
I've been cubing for about a year and my times haven't dropped at all. Partially because I don't have a good speedcube and partially because I've been focusing on other events and mainly collecting (still need to get free-slicing down!). I've considered switching to Roux as well. Should I learn F2l and start the road to CFOP or something else? What can I do to get better (at the very least sub 40?)
