Came back to cubing after around half a year.

About 40-50 secs when timing it...

Step 3
Current Average: 40-49 seconds
Goal Average: 30-39 seconds

  • Now learn intuitive First Two Layers (F2L).
  • Your times will temporarily worsen, but after a few days of practicing, they will significantly become better!
  • Practice your F2L A LOT, and never give up!
Estimated Time: 2-4 weeks

Not sure how this helps, I already know F2L well, but I have some pauses and inefficient pairing. 40-49 seconds without F2L sounds a little unrealistic (ofc it's possible, pointless though to try to get that fast before learning F2L).

IDK what to do ATM except learn more PLL algs.

its always ok to learn algs while practicing f2l but make sure you do that. don't just learn it but keep practicing. I didn't know f2l when my average was sub 40 with the beginner method. my friend was over a minute with f2l and the past few weeks he has had major improvement going down to 40-50 average and he's still improving a lot. just work hard.

I haven't used beginner method since Nov-Dec 2013, and my F2L is much better than beginner's method alg. I got 36 secs on a solve just now, bit lucky though. I'll go for another Ao5 after a bit of practice.

How to improve on CFOP?

I've been learning CFOP for a month or so, but I feel like I'm not improving a lot. Below is my average time distribution:
Cross: 8s
F2L: 30s
2-Look OLL: 8s
2-Look PLL: 11s
Total: 57s
Can anyone please suggest some methods that can help me improve my times? Thanks!

First thing you should work on is f2l. Try looking a a pair and solving it blind. Once you get the hang of it, you look at 2 pairs and solve them blind. Also, when doing f2l, dont do a lot of y2 rotations.

Thank you! I'll definitely try this out :)

It's a matter of a lot of practice right now. You're not quite at the point where you are familiar with basic F2L cases, and the only way to get there is to do more solves until it becomes second nature!

Once you are more familiar with the cases, you can more onto more advanced ways of progressing.

time stamps for sub 20 please

Hi Megh!, I'm averaging 17 after 5 months of cubing. Here are the time stamps
Cross 4 seconds (This can be done much faster)
F2L 9 seconds (Decent )
OLL 4 seconds (I'm assuming you use 2 Look. You need good recognition and high tps)
PLL 2.5 Seconds(You need full PLL. Sub 2 is decent and will help)

My question. I can solve pairs blindfolded, but my eyes want to look at the pair I'm solving. How can I force myself to look at the next pair?

Well... You force yourself to look at the next pair. It's not a question of how, it's a question of getting used to it. As always, practice.

I would actually say 1) reconginze the pair you're about to solve, then 2) look at the next corner (or pair, if you can see it), then 3) solve the pair that you're no longer looking at while tracking that corner. Rinse, repeat.

I'm stuck around 18 seconds. What should I do?
You aren't "stuck" unless you've been there for a lot longer than you have. Your expectations are too high. Nobody improves as fast as you seem to think you should. Getting to 18 seconds in the time you've been cubing is pretty good.

I thought you were going to switch to Roux? In which case, why would you say you are stuck? You've only been using it as your main method for a few days.

If he can't improve a second within a day, he's "stuck."

@PJKCuber: Get off the forums and practice.
