If I were to do MBLD, which I want to be my main event, not 3BLD. Is it worth it to switch from Old Pochmann? Like if I learn a more advanced method that is considered easier in some way, like M2, is it worth it? Since MBLD isn't really about time, usually.

Thanks in advanced.

MBLD method doesn't really matter much until you're doing around 15 cubes or more. I'd still recommend learning M2 though, because it isn't much of a step up from OP.

I know that I have asked the last question. Sorry if this is considered spam or whatever.

What what time should I switch to M2 or another method from Old Pochmann? Right now I can memo in about 2.5 minutes and solve in about 2 minutes.
I understand my memo time is slow and I should work on that. But at what point should I switch?

Any time, really. M2 is very easy to learn. I'd say now is a good time, if any, considering that you're at least moderately into 3BLD and you know how to memo and stuff. I learned it in about a day and was able to get average successes the same day. It's pretty easy, and actually a lot better than Old Pochmann since M2 (as in, the move) is a lot shorter than what you have to do for Old Pochmann (T-Perm, Y-Perm, whatever)

Doesn't doing U or U' mess up the buffer?

Setup U [do 2 targets] undo setup.

Example:
Setup a case with L' U M2 B' R B M2 B' R' B U' L

Now your next target is BU and the target after that is FL

1. Do a setup U that gets the BU target away from the M-slice (note that your setup move also must not put the next target to M-slice or you will have some problems)
2. After that setup move your new targets are RU and FL
3. Now just shoot to RU (B' R B M2 B' R' B)
4. Shoot to next target FL (U' L' U M2 U' L U)
5. Undo setup U'

Tadaa!

If you have targets like BU and LU you have to use B or B' to setup BU away from the M-slice (in this case BU target becomes BL or BR) since U moves would place LU edge to M-slice in the wrong orientation and you don't want that

However if your targets are BU and UL you will want to use U as a setup move since after that your targets will be: BU changes RU and UL changes to UB which is obviously nice since shooting to UB is only 1-move :D

Does anyone know a timer (online or download) with Stackmat gen3 support that uses the official WCA BLD scrambler (with wide moves at the end randomizing orientation)?

When I do big MBLD attempts, I am always 100% sure that my memo is correct, but there are a few cubes unsolved.
I check my memo after the attempt and see that I've memoed everything right and I know I haven't done any execution mistakes because I go very safe and slow during execution.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or does anyone have a tip for me?

Yeah, this used to happen to me, usually when I rushed memo. The most likely sources of error are executing cycles in the wrong direction or possibly executing different letter pairs that look/sound similar (i.e. I used KL and CL for the word "cool" for a while, until I switched KL for a cross-eyed girl I know called Kelly.)

My most successful attempts where those where I really milked my memorization time (i.e going right up to 42 mins for my 25/27 official attempt when I could rush it in 35 mins - although I forgot a flipped edge and one edge cycle it helped a lot!) and when I reviewed my cubes I would recognize which cubes I was likely to forget/switch around and review them once more just before I started.

Marcell also told me that he used to take short breaks during execution every nth cube to clear his head and maintain his concentration, which got him his 25/26 at Worlds. Maybe try that.

Thanks! I will definitly try this

I haven't done bigBLD in a while, and I've forgotten the parity algs for it. I'm thinking about getting back into it, but I just need to make sure I have the parity algs. I prefer to use centersafe algs, since I often change up my solve order. I find it's hard to find centersafe algs, do you think you guys could help me out?

wing parity (centersafe for both 4 and 5BLD)
corner + Wing parity for 5BLD (adj swap PLL parity basically)
corner + midge parity

Thanks guys

Welcome back to big BLD!

wing parity (centersafe for both 4 and 5BLD)

Most "pure" form OLL parity algs on 4x4x4 will rotate the U center 180 degrees. After executing the parity alg, use an alg to rotate the U center 180 degrees to cancel the centers effect and make the alg centers safe.

A wing parity alg on 5x5x5 that is centers safe is impossible. Changing the parity of the wing edges must also change the parity of the t-centers in the supercube sense. You can do some clever setups to swap 2 t-centers of the same color, but this is painful and requires many moves to do. I recommend to always execute wing parity after the centers are solved on a 5x5x5.

corner + Wing parity for 5BLD (adj swap PLL parity basically)

I think I misunderstand this situation. Having 2 corners swapped and 2 wing edges swapped, and no other pieces unsolved, is impossible on a 5x5x5. Can you clarify this case further?

corner + midge parity

Stefan's alg is nice for this (I translated it to lefty because I execute it lefty):
(Ll)2 (Ff)2 U2 l2 U2 (Ff)2 (Ll)2

I leave it to you to combine this with a corners+edges 2 swap 3x3x3 PLL

Thanks Chris! Has anyone ever told you you're one of the nicest and most helpful people on the forums? :)

I'm sorry, I think of it as corner and wing parity because I use OP for corners, and the two wings swapped by the Y perm was what I was thinking of. Since any sort of corner parity I do on 5BLD is just corners+midges, I actually don't need an alg for that, whoops!

Also, thanks for the clarification on centersafe algs. Funny enough, I can memorize a 5BLD, but I can't memorize certain rules involving supercubes and centersafeness and the like.

Happy to help :)

I did think you might be talking about corners+midges, but I wanted to clarify.

Try drawing up a matrix for the 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 as per my first post to get a feel for how the parities of the different piece orbits are affected by each type of turn you do. That matrix is what I think of when I am wondering which piece orbits are affected if you change the parity of some other piece orbit.

Don't memorize the rules, derive the rules! :)
