I have a set of Dayans,

Lingyun 2
Lunhui
Lubix Zhanchi
Guhong

I have not met or talked to any other cubers in person (cubing in my part of the world isn't very organised :/) so I'm not sure if my tensions/lubing technique etc are to blame. I do know my cubes tend to catch alot but I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Also having a look at the moyu weilong...

Sounds like a turning problem then. More practice needed!

How to learn to speedcube?

Okay so i can solve a 3x3 rubik's cube in under 3 minutes with lowest time being 1:31, but how do i speed solve? i can do a few finger tricks and i'm trying to learn to get better, but how do i read pll or oll and algorithms like that.

Welcome!
I recommend starting with f2l because its really the longest step (and thus the best place to start improving), you'll start to see results really quick!. Youtube Badmephisto f2l and have a look at some of his videos, they will teach you the basics but F2L is really based on intuition and playing around with the cube at that stage. Try to look for ways to get an edge paring so you can simply R U R' (turn the Right face clockwise, Up face clockwise, Right face anti clockwise) the pairing into the slot.

Good Luck :)

My recommendation is to buy a better cube and just practice really hard until you can solve the cube in less than 1 minute. Then you should learn 2Look OLL and 2Look PLL. Learn the notation in Badmephisto's video if you are having problems with algorithms. When you get to around 50 seconds, then learn F2L. Youd don't need to learn full PLL until you are sub 30 and Full OLL unitl you are sub 20. I average around 35 seconds and don't know Full OLL/PLL yet. :)

Whats the best way to learn and memorize the algs that go with all 41 F2L cases? Also is there a scrambler that has 3x3 subsets for F2l training?
Don't memorise algs for F2L; learn it intuitively.
For a timer that does F2L scrambles, on csTimer, go to 3x3x3 -> easy cross and choose length 0. The cross will always be solved after scrambling (hold your cross colour on U).

Stuck in the 50's

Long story short, I am stuck between 50-59 seconds in the solving of my 3x3. I've been attempting to speed cube for a few weeks. I am currently using beginner CFOP. I don't have an interest in learning a ton of algorithms. My goal is to get an average of 30 seconds. Is there anything I can do that will help me achieve this? Or should I start researching algorithms?

Thanks,

~Beast

The most important thing is practice of course. I would also advise to learn 4LLL, it's not a ton of algs (just 15) and you can get sub 30 with that (with enough practice of course).

As you continue to solve, your mind will become more aware of F2L pairs and you'll find it easier to recognise OLL and PLL cases. This is just a cognitive stage of speedsolving the cube. The way your mind analyses the cube at the moment is still at a beginner level. Keep practicing, be patient and you'll get there. Good luck!

if you do about 20-30 timed solves a day, you can get down to 30 seconds in no time. When you're at 50-59 seconds, improving is on of the easiest things to do. I'm assuming you know F2L, right? Becasue that will drop your times even more.

I thought this thread was about time travel. Boo!

Useful things (i.e. not "just practice"):

1. Decide if you want to stick with CFOP. Take a look at the "beginner's guide to choosing a speedcubing method" thread - it's stickied I think. Good to make this decision early, if you do want to switch.

2. If you do persist with CFOP, learn 1 look PLL (if you haven't already).

3. If you haven't already, learn F2L as soon as possible, rather than inserting each corner then edge (or vice versa).

4. Do a load of solves.

1, 2, & 3 ARE important, as there's little value to practising an inefficient method, or one you aren't going to use going forward.

Good luck - persistence will pay off! :D

Thanks guys. I learned a faster way to complete my F2L, and I am learning 4LLL. I already got under the 50's, so it is good progress. Plus, I am practicing much more now.

Hey Guys any tips on how I could reduce my solve times?

I'm sub 39

Currently learnt about 12 Olls
And about 5 Plls

And I use Beginners F2L

Any help is appreciated :)
