Hello SS forums!

I've been cubing for the past month or so and i've seen some nice progressions. In the first 3 days of my cubing journey, i learned the beginner method. But ofcourse, that was not challenging at all so in my fourth day i started learning intuitive F2L. I got the basics, learned a few tricks and alg's for some heavy cases and i moved on forward to 2L OLL/PLL. I got 2L OLL and PLL done in 2 days. So actually in my first week of cubing, i learned the beginner method, F2L, 2look OLL, 2look PLL. It may not be something to bow to, but it was a nice achievment for me, especially because i had no previous experience with cubing before.

After i learned all that, i decided that it was time to stop learning new things and exercise with what i've got. It's been probably 3 weeks since i started cubing, and the last 2 weeks were only exercising. 2 days ago i got my first sub35 solve and i was really happy. My avg is around 45s, maybe even 40 if i get a good recognition. Have in mind that the cube i got is REAAALLLYY bad, it's from an unknown distribution that doesnt even have a name, there is no corner cutting, reverse cutting, or anything like that. I ordered an ChiLong 2 weeks ago, now im waiting for it to be delivered.

My question is, what should i learn further? Should i just wait for my cube to come? Or should i learn something like full PLL before? I need some tips and suggestions on what to work with.

Thank you in advance!

Practice your F2L, as well as what you already know before learning anything else. Learning full OLL/PLL won't help you at this point if your F2L is slow. It's also important to note that getting a speed cube might help somewhat but don't expect your times to magically drop just because you're using a better cube. It all comes down to practice. If you don't practice what you've already learned and get a feeling for it before moving on and learning something new you'll never improve your times.

I would just keep practicing until your ChiLong arrives, then when you get to around 35 second average learn full PLL, after you are comfortable with fingertricks and stuff.

Thank you so much for the tips guys, i'll do what i'm told!

I'll just keep pratctising and learning new fingertricks/shortcuts, i'll update my status once my cube arrives. Is there something like a thread where people write about their progress?

Thanks again, cheers.

You can do as DeeDubb said, or there is an accomplishment thread and a goals thread that you can check out to share your progress.

this guide helped me to get sub20 in less than a year.
now i'm trying to get sub15

Hey,
Any tips for improving LL speed?
I average about 13-14 seconds, and I've recently done some breakdowns with cTimer. My f2l pairs are about 6 seconds, while LL is about 4-5 seconds. I think I can make some fast progress by increasing that LL speed, because most of my algs don't have great speed and I have awful recognition. How have other people improved their LL time? I am currently practising the algs alone but it doesn't directly translate into faster LL times in solves.

Practicing algs alone won't improve recognition. You could do LL scrambles and time yourself with no inspection and then you are practicing recognition also. Learn some basic two side PLL recog. Recognition only gets better through practice and so while drilling a single alg can help a little, only doing that ignores the aspect that you yourself say needs work and it can waste seconds.

Also if you want to practice like that then shoot for 2.15 seconds for OLL no inspection average of 100 and 2.80 PLL no inspection. That's what I did to get sub 13.

My LL is around the same speed, so I know what you mean. If you don't know full OLL already, you should try doing that. That should decrease your times considerably. Also, while inserting your last pair, try to predict your OLL, and on the last few moves of OLL try to predict your PLL. However, this is more advanced.

Yeah, I have OLL. I'm going to go through them and work on the finger tricks though, most of them aren't very fast.

I have been practicing F2L for about a week and a half, but I still can't get consistent sub 40 averages. Can anyone help me? I use Cross+F2l+4LLL. I want to be color neutral. Should I change now or later?

if you want to be color neutral, you should practice it as soon as possible imo. It won't help you get sub40, but it will help you in the long run. You just need to practice

Good Luck!

Thanks and I saw your 9.05(Insanely Fast!!!!!). Can you please tell me how to get sub 40 averages?I average aroung 46-47 seconds. Do I need more practice. I'm in summer vacation and I have a month left. I do about 25 solves a day. How much can I improve in a month?

Sorry if I'm annoying you but how much practice? What is the minimum no of solves that I should do? How can I improve my F2L(I do it in around 38 seconds)? Do you have any tips for OH Solving?
Thanking you in advance.

you should do at least 1 solve. improve your f2l by practising. improve your OH by practising

also learn to search please

F2L takes a lot of practice to get comfortable with. You've only been practicing it for a week and a half. For some people it takes months to improve F2L. Just keep practicing. You're doing fine, F2L just take time. It's also a good time to start learning full PLL. Being color neutral probably won't help your times at this point but if you want to be color neutral then the earlier you start the better.

Just practice a lot. I usually do at least one average of 100 a day and some other focused practicing. Now you don't need to do 100 solves a day but the more you practice the faster you'll get. You can improve a lot in one month, especially at your speed. If you practice enough you could definitely be sub-30. At least that's my experience with teaching other people.
