Practice practice practice f2l. Your times should be (for 30 second average) about 3.75-15-5.625-5.625

I love this - 'about', then times to nearest milisecond! ;)

Agreed though. I got down to about 24 seconds before I had to start worrying about anything other than practicing F2L. Now cube rotations and lookahead are the main things holding me back.

The best lookahead guides are the OP on this thread and Colin Burns' tutorials on Cubing World, but I wouldn't worry too much about looking ahead just yet. Practice your f2l, look up awkward cases that you execute slowly. Practice some more. There's nothing wrong with stopping mid-solve and looking up a better way to insert an F2L pair, I do that regularly, it's much better (IMHO) than just looking at F2L videos on youtube and thinking 'must remember to use that in a solve'!

Good luck. I never thought I'd be sub 30! :p

Lol. I went by percentages in speedpickers systematic guide. 12.5%-50%-18.75%-18.75%

How do people improve?

Ok, so i CAN NOT get faster at the 3x3x3 AT ALL. I practice F2L and know 2 look OLL and PLL. I average 50 seconds and can not get any better. How do you get so freaking good at look ahead?! And i just looked on youtube and people can solve it one handed in 20 seconds... -_- PLEASE HELP!

It doesn't come over night, you need to keep on practicing. But don't do it mindlessly. That's a common trap (I fall into it myself), but actually think about what you're doing. Do F2L training, drill algs to see which ones you need to optimize, do time splits to see which steps you need to improve in order to have optimal sub-step times for your current average. When you're optimal, it's much easier to become faster as you need to percentually improve the same amount on all step. A good guide on that matter can be found here.
Also try learning some tips for tricky F2L cases, and one look PLL should help quite a bit. If you already know 2-look, it's not that hard to learn the rest.

If someone(who doesn't know how to solve the cube) asks you "how can you solve the cube in less than a minute ??? Thats so fast!!!! ".
Your answer will be "I know something which currently you do not know".
So similarly all the fast cubers have learned a lot of new things and PRACTISED to get that fast. So you will get faster slow and steady by learning..........

At 50 seconds, I would think the biggest issue is optimizing rather than needing lookahead yet.

Do you solve the cross in max 8 moves?
Can you find how to solve the cross during the inspection time?
- Or do you spend the inspection time just glancing at the cross pieces, and then line them up one by one for who knows how many moves, after the time starts?

Can you solve each F2L case in 3-11 moves?
And need mostly only 3-8 moves except for awkward cases?
Can you tell what alg/moves you'll use when you find the 2 pieces of an F2L pair?
- Or do you use unoptimized random insertions of edge or corner pieces until they line up or end up as a familiar case?

I find that when people I've taught optimize these two parts, along with a true 2 look OLL and true 2 Look PLL (and not just cycling sunes or perms), they end up sub30 instantly with even a moderately slow turn speed, and only need to work on lookahead to get sub20 (and maybe full PLL).

Beginner! Totally confused, help!

Hey, so I'm a complete beginner to cubing, I was interested in learning the fridrich/cfop method but I'm totally confused with all of this, with luck I can get the cross but it all goes bad when I try to get f2l, any help would be appreciated :D

Yeah, badmephisto's tutorial will definitely help you loads more than trying to learn F2L as a complete beginner. It took me like 2 weeks to really know how to do F2L well. It's a tough concept. Badmephisto's tutorial teaches you simplified CFOP, which will give you an advantage later on in speedcubing, since you'll have a basic grasp on the steps in every solve.

Hey, thanks for all your replies, i managed to spend 4 days learning and practicing and got my time to 1.29 :D Thanks again ^_^

My splits are 2.74-9.83-3.28-2.69. So 18.51 mo12. Which needs most work? What tips do you have? I know all but like 4-5 olls.

Cross and f2l should each be much faster. I average about 15 flat and I know like 30-35 OLLs. EDIT: 32. Try and make the cross sub 2, and have f2l sub 8. Basically having the entire f2l complete in under 10 seconds is what you want to shoot for. Then maybe up your TPS on the LL and you'll be fine.

Splits: 5.21, 2.79, 2.90, 1.34, 3.05, 4.53, 3.25 = 23.07.

I timed each step individually, so add 3 seconds for recognition. I have the most trouble with cross transition.

Cross + 1st F2L pair 9.15.
