I have developed a version of OP that I believe is
even simpler and more accessible than the most basic OP available. It swaps center stickers (the cube's core), a technique which has appeared before in this forum. I bring two things which may be new. First, I have developed many original algs. More importantly, in my system there are only 23 setups to learn (one per letter) instead of the usual 43, which reduces the mental overhead and increases the chance of a successful solve. The solver does not need to know whether the parity case is present. There are 2 algs to learn, no parity alg, no pseudoswaps, no substitutions, no cycle changes.
The cube's core can rotate in one of 6 ways in this system. I will use (y2 z) today, which swaps the following faces (think order-2 alg): U-R, D-L, F-B. Try that with a solved cube.
Corner alg (2 choices):
F' r U r2 U2 r D' R r2 F R D r' U r' f r2
F2 U2 f D' R' D F r F' R' D' R U R' F2 r D F
Edge alg (2 choices):
U f D' R2 U M' U' R2 D F' U M' U2
x' y (R2 S R2') U2 (R S R') U2 (r S' r') y' x
I am indebted to
bcube for introducing me to a thread where
Vincent Trang,
Lucas Garron and others were discussing algs that function like these. They were doing this work long before I started, which I did not know. Here's what I'm hoping my system brings to the table: My algs use an
AK/AK buffer-target system. The corner and edge algs both use buffer A and target K. Buffers and targets become domino-shaped "zones" (in highly visible spots) instead of individual stickers. This gives a small benefit to memo, because for both edges and corners, a new cycle CAN begin on B, but CANNOT ever begin on A, eliminating the A-B confusion problem. It gives an enormous benefit to setup moves. Normal OP algs make use of edge dummies for the corner solve, which swap back and forth. And vice versa for the edge solve. Because the algs above use CENTER DUMMIES instead, the setups do not have to maneuver around dummy roadblocks!
With no roadblocks, and a shared-K target,
an edge and corner sticker with the same letter can use the SAME setup. So: Corner P = edge P = R' D'. Corner T = edge T = R2 F. You might think the resultant 23 setups would be long and awkward in some cases. They are not. Every one is 3 turns or less, and every one is face-turn only. By my calculations, the total number of setup turns performed in a typical solve is exactly the same as the number in the basic plain OP system. Here they are:
Bb: R' F
Cc: F R' D'
Dd: U R' F
Ee: BUFFER / r2 U r2
Ff: r F r'
Gg: D
Hh: B' R D'
Ii: F2
Jj: F
Kk: none
Ll: F'
Mm: R2 D'
…For the rest, see my CHEAT SHEET (yellow column):

Simple demo scramble:
D R2 D2 F' D2 R' D2 L' F U' L2 D' L' D2 R2 F'
Solution, speffz (I'll begin with corners. You may begin with corners or edges):
B J B || J B L C M
[ R' F ] F' r U r2 U2 r D' R r2 F R D r' U r' f r2 [F' R]
[ F ] F' r U r2 U2 r D' R r2 F R D r' U r' f r2 [ F' ]
[ R' F ] F' r U r2 U2 r D' R r2 F R D r' U r' f r2 [F' R]
|| -- corners solved, centers mixed up --
[ F ] U f D' R2 U M' U' R2 D F' U M' U2 [F' ]
[ R' F ] U f D' R2 U M' U' R2 D F' U M' U2 [ F' R ]
[ F' ] U f D' R2 U M' U' R2 D F' U M' U2 [F ]
[ F R' D' ] U f D' R2 U M' U' R2 D F' U M' U2 [D R F' ]
[ R2 D' ] U f D' R2 U M' U' R2 D F' U M' U2 [D R2 ]
Note the commonly repeated setups between corners and edges. This will happen in every solve.
Using the Stickersolve desktop app,
I have created 93 million algs for this system. They are graded and organized, and I will make them all available!!
Due to personal and family reasons, I hope to put out my YouTube video tomorrow, Saturday, if possible. But I would certainly like feedback first, about which parts of my system are old, and which are new. Most importantly, I want to give credit where credit is due. It would help me very much if members could direct me to threads and other locations where these ideas have been discussed. My video is already filmed, but I can make adjustments and do the right thing.
I have 3 working names for this system. But is this system too similar to another that already exists and has a name?
OP-3K. 3K means 3 Kingdoms: Corners, edges, centers

bcube directed me to these two links:
www.cubinghistory.com/BlindfoldSolving/Methods/VoidSwap#previous-proposal
- Vincent Trang's Void Swap method. Includes Stefan Pochmann's joyous discovery of an alg just like the edge algs above, but from 2005. Good grief!
https://www.speedsolving.com/threads/void-swap-a-unique-beginner-3bld-method.85777/
- Void Swap post. Vincent Trang, Lucas Garron and others describe the center-sharing OP plan seen in my method.
- Void Swap itself is very clever but different. The edge alg induces a 4-cycle on the center stickers, not a swap. The corner alg does not affect the centers.
Thanks for listening!
