Hey, how can I make the cross without rotating and done it with less moves? and unfortunately, I haven't found any youcube videos that actualy work (They talk about good and bad edges etcetc, but it still won't work for me).

Thanks!

I am wondering how to get faster with layer by layer right now I cant get past sub 1:00 and my PB is 1:02 and I usually get 1:50-2:10 any help? I use a Qiyi Thunderclap V1
Not to be rude, but most of this forum, and a lot of videos on YouTube are dedicated to this very topic. Try doing a bit of research, and see if somebody else has asked this question before (lots of people have) and if it's been answered (almost as many times as it's been asked). In a nutshell, the answer is (drum roll please): practice.

Is it worth sledgehammering to insert f2l pairs to avoid cube rotations?

I'm a 24 second solver and my f2l is really weak so I'm just exploring all my weaknesses right now...

Anybody know what the optimal movecount for each PLL is in QTM?

What alg do people use for this U COLL?

v

If you say [R' (Y Perm) R] ask yourself this, you're doing COLL specifically to avoid bad PLLs, so why are you doing an extended Y perm before you even get to PLL?

The closest I found to a decent alg for this case (after looking through all the ZBLLs for this COLL on algdb,) is -

R U' R2' U' R2 U R' F' R U R2 U' R' F R2

But that honestly doesn't feel great, regripless but high QTM.

Thoughts?

I use that alg. Also, it is a Y-perm conjugate.

Just do ZBLL for that COLL set

My favorite is r U R' U' r' F R2 U' R' U' R U2 R' U' F'

I use R U' R' U R U' r B r' U B2 R B2 R2. Don't judge it by the B turns until you've tried it. It's actually a lot nicer than it looks.

I am curious to get some tips from people who have learned large algorithm sets. I know about 200 algorithms and I still need to learn hundreds more, and while most algorithms are learned very quickly and easily, about 1 in 20 algorithms is a 'black' algorithm. What I mean is the algorithm is ergonomic and fast, but for some reason my brain has an extremely hard time learning it. Meaning that even after 20+ minutes of trying to drill it, and 3 days later I struggle to execute it. I am not able to explain why some algorithms have this quality, they can be as short as 7 moves, while other 16 move algorithms are learned very easily. Has anyone had this problem? Any tips on how to get these 'black' algorithms to stick in the muscle memory faster?

I find that, when this happens, it's most often with algorithms that are very similar to another algorithm I know well. Let's say the first two triggers are the same, it then becomes very difficult to distinguish between the one I know and the one I'm learning.

I'd think that those would become more common as you learn more, but then the effect would lose severity past a certain point.
