bump. Still wondering if this silicone grease is a good idea. Anyone else use silicone grease?

If it says it's safe on plastic and your cube feels very good, probably the answer is yes. I use silicone oil. Not sure what the difference is with silicone grease.

Yeah it will be better than the v2 with 50k, but still gummy. Try 30k or cubicle weight 3 for the pieces

Yep. 50k is probably a bit too vicous for the pieces. Try to find a lower weight, depending on how fast you like your cube, weight 3 or 2 (or even 1) will do the trick. Not sure if there is a match between thecubicle weight 1, 2, 3... with traxxas 10k, 20k, 30k... Anybody out there knows that?

Yes it's perfectly fine. Silicon grease is just silicon oil made thicker. It will actually take longer to wear out than silicon oil since it's less runny. I use it to lube O-rings and plastic parts in gearboxes which can't stand petroleum based lubricants.

thanks! What silicone grease do you use for the plastic parts you mentioned??

Also, is Traxxas 50k petroleum based or silicone? I'm noticing a significant difference between the two. Specifically, I feel like Traxxas 50k evaporates quicker than this silicone grease. The feel is different too. The silicone grease gives my cubes a smoother less gummy feel. Right now I'm inclined to say I prefer silicone grease.

Traxxas is Pure Silicone, i bought Xray 50,000 cst from my local hobby store it seems thicker and makes a cube just a bit gummier(not much, just barely).

Help I bought the Gans 3

I got the Gans 3, and a speed timer. They should be coming with in 1-2 weeks. I happened to got Jig-a-Loo. I used it on my main, the Weilong , and it turned out really good. I wanted to know if I should use it on my Gans 3 when it comes. Oh yea btw Gans 3 V2. I want to make the gans 3 my main and not screw it up. So what do you guys think should I use JIG A LOO on my Gans 3 or is it good enough? Thanks

Some people have claimed that Jig-A-Loo will damage/melt plastic. I do not have experience with this myself, but if you really want to be safe I would not use anything in an aerosol can. The Gans really doesn't need much lube at all and I would test it out without any first.

Good lubes (besides professional silicone lubes)?

I really want to know what lubes are good. My mom won't let me buy any good lubes, and i know that most in-store lubes are for machine parts, not plastic, so it will kinda melt the cube. Any good lubes? (p.s. i've heard Veggie oil works but i'm not sure)

If your Mom is just concerned with the price of most cube lubes (which I kind of am too, Lubix is ridiculiusly expensive) then of she'd let you buy a cheap one just go for Traxxas 30K differential oil, I'ts $7 for a bottle on Amazon and the bottle will last you forever because you only use a little at a time.

Help! Overlubing

I overlubed my cube with silicone spray (hey! it's my first time!) and it got really really bad. Anyone's help? Right now I'm soaking in lukewarm water, i heard that dissolves silicone.

tanks guys but the silicone is now sticking to my pieces and now i can't get any of the center caps off when i want to adjust the tension :( any help on dat/

Wow. That is a lot of lube then. Flathead screw driver under the little notch on the center caps would help... unless you have an older cube without them.

Regarding the caps, maybe wait a little bit of time to let the silicon dry off or try using a screwdriver like pdilla said. Next time when lubing watch a tutorial to get an idea of how much to spray.

Sometimes heavier lube jobs can use a good hot water + dish soap fix. Remove the screws, springs and washers first!
