I don't get it.

(l' R) = x

I think he must have meant l R U' R' U l' . I use this all the time and find it very fast. It also gives you a peek at the back face. I also use it for other cases to avoid rotations by firstly pairing them up. The F2L wiki on this site is a good place to find rotationless F2L algs. Avoid the FU ones though.

For example look at F2L 24 third from the bottom in the list. It looks long but it's fast.

totally right... another example of how my dyslexic brain screws up notations....

sorry for the confusion

That's a decent alg actually, I just started using it.

I know you said you don't like M slices, but you might find it worth having a crack at some of them. I find M' (with right ring finger) a lot easier than M so I would use e.g. same case but into BL: l U L' U' M' (and mirror into BR) and find it quite quick.

Great first post btw

yea thats an easy one too... I like the simplicity...

so many algs lol

Okay... My times are still around 55 seconds. I guess I just need to keep practicing!

I've worked on some of the weird cases from badmephisto's F2L alg sheet. It's really annoying that I can't be better!

at this point all i have done for the last 2 days is solve f2l once i get to the OLL i just scramble and restart.... on friday my ao5 was 54 seconds now its 41....

best time now is 31 seconds improved from 39

seems the solution is just practice practice practice

It is a good thing to try to solve your f2l intuitively. But if a pair takes you more than 8 moves, there is usually a shorter solution.
As some people have already said, you can look up in some guides for shorter solutions, but don't just apply them, understand where they come from, how they work, and it will improve your f2l understanding.

And if the main thing slowing you down is the time it takes you to recall/find which moves to make when you're in front of a random f2l case, then just practice, and the moves will become eventually automatic. And then, when you just see a case and you can solve it without thinking about it, then it's time to work on your lookahead!

How can I get under 15 seconds F2L without memorizing a bunch of algorithms?

Like can I use intuitive F2L and get under 15 or 10 seconds on my f2l? Please help. I want to enter a cube competition in Mongolia but I'm kinda slow...33 second average.

Agreed, my Cross+F2L is 8-9 seconds and I only use like 5 algs. Of course, with enough practice your intuitive solutions become like algs in the way you execute them, but that's not really the same as learning algs.

I didn't notice the end of the post. 33 IS NOT TOO SLOW TO COMPETE. YOU ARE NEVER TOO SLOW TO COMPETE. NO-ONE AT A COMPETITION CARES HOW SLOW YOU ARE.
