Is ther any other way I can learn intuitive F2L without having to watch videos? I just want to print a hardcopy out for my use; those videos are just too confusing

For Intuitive F2L, Doug Reed's guide seems to be the place to go. It's not available on his website anymore, but the Wayback Machine has archives of it from 3/9/04 and 17/4/07 (though you might struggle without the images.

Cheers,
Dave
The wayback machine page doesnt have the archive any longer. any other places to get them?

How do i do the Fridrich F2L?

I have been doing cubes for like 2 months now and i learned all the PLL edges and im fine with PLL corners and im going to do 2 look OLL this week and i was wondering after i get the cross whats the fastest way for F2L or an intermediate method on doing it that is very fast because i just got a 47.9 which is my fastest time and i take so long doing F2L takes me like 25 seconds :(

The fastest cubers in the world use Fridrich F2L, and can finish the entire F2L (including the cross) in less than 8 seconds. That doesn't mean Fridrich F2L is the fastest, though.

Petrus F2L is also used for F2L. Not many people use it because the block building is a little bit difficult so not many people are fast at it.

Fridrich F2L is easy to learn, and if you want to learn it, I would HIGHLY recommend looking at Badmpephisto's F2L videos. He teaches intuitive Fridrich F2L, which in my opinion is MUCH better for people to learn than compared to learning Fridrich F2L by algorithms.

so what method is the one that uses the corners and pairs then with edges and places them it at the same time

that would be Fridrich. I also recommend looking at badmephisto's tutorials. And a little side note is if you want to learn OLL/PLL badmephisto also has a site: badmephisto.com (heh... what do ya know?). Good luck!

can anyone give extra help? this is so confusing everytime i try the edge goes in backwards and it takes me like 5 minutes just to get one in

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, but I think your problem is Fridrich F2L.

Badmephisto's F2L videos are very good, and there aren't much better intuitive Fridrich F2L tutorial videos.

Intuitive Fridrich F2L is not easy at first to learn. You must try and try and be persistent, never giving up. Experiment many ways until you understand how this and that works. That is intuitive F2L and understanding how it works will enable to get fast at it. You have to practice it and try it out for a long time, maybe a few hours, until you get a hang of it. Try hard, and good luck! :)

hahah thanks. my brain works best with algorithms because i can look for a picture then execute the move, like with the 5x5 and 4x4 i have to look around the cube for edge pieces to pair them and im not good at finding them

Yeah but with Fridrich F2L or Petrus F2L, learning by algorithms is not good. For F2L, you must understand how everything works, because they are many ways you can solve the F2L. Unless you study each algorithm for like 10 minutes, and memorize all 41 of them, you're just going to be executing algorithms without knowing how they work. Besides, the algorithms are just guidelines, and there are billions of cases the F2L can appear in, and 41 algorithms won't cut it.

Intuitive F2L doesn't have much memorization, and you can get the hang of it in a day or two. Memorize 41 algorithms? Probably get the hang of it in a week? Maybe more?

Just some quick thoughts on F2L:

There are essentially 7 base cases of F2L pairs. 3 of them are mirrors, so it's really 4 cases, plus mirrors for 3 of those cases. If you can learn the base cases well, you can build on that for all cases.

For the configurations that aren't one of the 7 base cases, your job is to transform what you have into one of those cases. How? By using open slots. An "open slot" is a spot on the cube where one of the F2L pairs goes that is *not* yet filled with the right cubies. When you "hide" a corner piece in the top layer, put the open slot behind it before you hide it, so that you don't break a pair that is already in the right place.

Typing this out, I can see why there are so many bad F2L tutorial web pages around. It's very hard to elegantly describe the principles of F2L without visual aides. Video would be good, but obviously more effort than me spending 5 minutes typing in a few principles. :)

If you have specific questions about F2L cases, or principles, please ask. Give an example if possible.

I hope this helped some.

Brian.

I started cubing about a year ago using LBL. My non-intuitive F2L was down to about 40 seconds. I decided to learn Fridrich F2L, and as embarrassing as it sounds, it took me darn near an hour to slot my first corner edge pair. I really had no working understand of how things move on a cube. Now my F2L is always sub 30 (and getting faster). Be patient with yourself. Learning how to solve intuitively may take time, but you will have a new appreciation for the cube (at least I did).

Request:How to solve your F2L faster

Hi I'am currently learning how to solve my F2L for frendich method but it's taking a lot of time. Is this natural and come in time? If so I'am just overeacting but if there is a way to do it, please leave a comment or even make a guide. Thanks;)

lol

F2L is one of the most well documented and thoroughly explained concepts in speedcubing. Look around in this forum and on youtube. The information is there if you want it. Good F2L won't come overnight, it will take some time. But the basic concepts are not too difficult to grasp if you sit down and really work on it.
