W/R orientation is boring :(

How long will it take to switch to something more fun/unique? I'm like 2-3 minutes average now, been doing blind seriously for about 1 month, off and on for about 1 year with W/R.

Note: I currently don't know my corner lettering scheme well at all (Speffz). I still have to go around the cube checking the piece a lot. My edge scheme i know pretty well though.

Question to the people who use advanced M2:
Do you guys use it intuitively or do you know the cases that work and those wich doesnt work and how to set them up?
I ready dont know wich the the best way is.

Greetings, Dennis

If you already know the case, how to set up and which algorithm you need to do, then you don't have to think about it.

Yes, i also think, that this is the best way.

How fast can you get with adv M2 in avg? What do you guys think? I also mean like compared to normal M2. How many seconds can you save in avg?

Dennis

It really depends what cases you get in the solve. If you get cases involving FU and BD, or a few with really nice algs when compared to standard M2, it could be significant. But I think one thing that makes advM2 useful is that it helps you to transition into freestyle/BH edges, since most of the "tricks" are really just commutators.

Oh and I average about 1:40, I'm not particularly fast but my problems are mostly in corners :p

Algs with setups to UB were fairly easy at first. Speed and fluid cancellations came with practice.

Algs with one of the targets at FU or BD were a bit harder... I kind of developed "rules" for myself (e.g. for FU, if the other target sticker is on the "outside" (LD, LU, RF, etc.) then no rotation. If it's on the "inside" (DL, BL, FR, etc.) then do an x rotation before the alg). With practice, these rules became natural to follow.

Thats exactly what i did. Making your own rules like these, then its also not too hard to remember them because you developed them because they are logical.

Thanks, Dennis

I have some srsly problems with adv M2. Sometimes i just think too much and loose a lot of time because of that. Any tips? Is that the way it is in the beginning?

Thanks, Dennis

Yeah that's to be expected. It really just comes down to practice and experimentation, the more you get used to finding shortcuts, the less you have to think and the more braindead it becomes.

I found that doing sighted solves really helped me. Don't worry about speed, just try to find the best way of doing each pair. This way you can get used to stuff without the pressure of having to solve blindfolded :)

Ok, thank you for that :)
So i just have to be patient i guess. Do you also use shortcuts for like: DR-FR and so on. So where you basically just save like 2 moves?

Yeah I do, DR-FR would be U R2 U' M2 U R' U' M2 U R' U'. I find that these sort of things actually save me more time than you'd expect because I get into the habit of thinking of it as a single alg, rather than two separate targets. Treating it as a single alg lets me fingertrick it better and eliminate the little pause I'd have between the two targets if I did them seperately. So, at least for me, it's worth doing these small shortcuts :)

@JasonK:

I just took the same case and i would use this one:

R2U'M2UR'U'M2UR'

Its even 2 moves shorter and even more fingertrick friendly. What do you think?

It's strange how not having a cube with you makes you forget all your algorithms :p Yeah that's what I'd actually do, I just forgot since I wasn't able to do it on a cube.

HAHAHA :D

Ok, i see that these cases would actually save more than just 2 moves. I just did that case (DR-FR) in a normal way and then with our algorithm and saved like 1.5 seconds. Just for ONE case. I should really find some better ways for all the cases and then hopefully they will stick in my mind. Then i think advM2 is more than just an advanced method of M2. AdvM2 is only for like FR, BD and so on. I think this is almost a new way of solving edges.

I think this is almost a new way of solving edges.

Actually, this is just a variant of the "setup-to-side" trick, when your side effect is temporary different aside from the standard UF-DB-U-D-F-B pieces. Here, the "setup" is a simple U', hence the U R2 U' (...) becames U' U R2 U' (...) = R2 U' (...). Or: just "delete" the U/U' from the beginning and the end of the algorithm, since none of the pieces are in the U layer.

This is works when none of the pieces on U, and you normally would start with U/U'.
Similar example with B:
Target: LF-LD
Normal way: B L2 B' M2 B L2 B' B L B' M2 B L' B' = B L2 B' M2 B L' B' M2 B L' B'
Shortened: L2 B' M2 B L' B' M2 B L' (left out the B/B' from the beginning and the end)
Execution: x' L2 U' M2 U L' U' M2 U L' x

EDIT: My 100th post. :)
