Hey guys.
I watched Zanes video "M2 progression (basic 3-cycles)" yesterday.. (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9ESyP9s7S0) and afterwards i did some M2 solves with my eyes open. I realized, that there are MANY ways to gat faster solves by using shorter algorithms. Even/ESPECIALLY for the M-slice-edges. For example:
I have to solve FU and BD. A REALLY bad case with really bad algorithms (one out of several bad cases). So i thought that its ok to do any setup moves because if i solve 2 pieces, nothing else is involved and i can just undo the setup moves. (I know that this is what commutators are about, but i NEVER did anything with commutators..).
So instead of solving:
FU (FERUR'E'RU'R'F'M2) and then
BD (FERUR'E'RU'R'F'M2)
I could do:
U'B' (B'RB M2 B'R'B) (U'LU M2 U'L'U) BU
wich is WAY faster. I can do that in almost every case. I mean, finding a shorter algorithm or setting up the pieces to different positions, so you can just solve them so much easier. Of course i dont know every case, but you dont have to because its easy to make them up, while solving i think.
QUESTION:
Is that also a kind of freestyle? Because i think my M2 solving will totally change. Setting up pieces in almost every case, to solve them faster or just easier, then undo the setup moves and go on.
Is that what you call a kind of freestyle, or commutator or what? Because i think, that this is not just advanced M2...
Thanks a lot. I am looking forward to get some answers
(I just realized that tonight at 4:30 am and i couldnt sleep afterwards because I was so happy to find out all these things.
I guess that a lot of people already know that, but it sticks better in your head, if you find out yourself AND you totally understand it then..And i think it helps me understanding some other things in BLD cubing in the future (commutators etc.))
Greetings, Dennis
