i learned bld solving some months ago and now i want to begin again with it, is using m2 old pochmann good for beginners? memo is: corners : visual Edges: letter pair words mixed with audio memo

For long-term memo (I'm thinking MBLD), say you turned the letters GR EL into 'green elephant'. How would you differentiate between this and 'elephant [which is] green' (EL GR)?
Try adding more emphasis on the first pair, making it more obvious. So for GR EL, there could be a large green shape, then as you get closer or it lifts its head you realise it's an elephant.

If the order was EL GR, you could be astonished at an elephant in the location, then slightly afterwards you notice that it's in fact green. This is how I differentiate some pairs anyway.

EDIT: should I just not use colours in memo?
I don't think it's necessary, but if what I explained doesn't help, then maybe you should think about dropping colours.

BH corners question:
I have all the pure coms down. They all follow the same rule of which direction to cycle based on the position of the buffer relative to the other two pieces. (Hopefully that makes sense.) Now I'm learning the first group of 9 movers that the document (Chester's?) I'm using calls Sophomore. I can't find a simple, intuitive rule like the one I'm using for 8 movers that will predict which direction I'm cycling. How do you all figure it out on the fly?

Examples:
UBL>UFL>DBL: y D2 L2 D R2 D' L2 D R2 D y'
UBL>DFL>DBL: y U2 L2 U' R2 U L2 U' R2 U' y'
UBL>RUB>UFR: x U R2 U L2 U' R2 U L2 U2 x'
UBL>BUR>UFR: x' z U2 L2 U R2 U' L2 U R2 U z' x

I basically do what Zane is suggesting. Although I would use a simple noun to associate with the color when it's the leading image.
GR EL: Green wall covered with an elephant patter, like wall paper. The big image comes first, the detail or characteristic comes second.
EL GR: An elephant painted green. The color is a detail of the primary object.

Maybe I just don't get the question. You do the first quarter move of A9 and get pure comm. Now you can figure out cycle direction and do the rest.
I do the pure version completely differently though.

UBL>DFL>DBL
A9: y U2 L2 U' R2 U L2 U' R2 U' y'
Pure w/ setup: U y x' R2 U' L' U R2 U' L U x y' U' making it a 10 mover.

With [U L2 U':R2] the pieces are moving in ways I'm not used to. Here's my logic/procedure for pure if it helps:

The 3 pieces are like a chain. With either 1 or 3 moves, corner 1 can swap with corner 2, and corner 2 can swap with corner 3. Corners 1 & 3 may or may not be able to swap, but it's irrelevant because there is no need to identify their connection. The position of the buffer in the chain determines what order to swap.
Buffer in position 1 (CP: move C first to Buffer, then move P to C)
Buffer in position 2 (IB: move B first to Buffer, then move I to Buffer)
Buffer in position 3 (PC: move P first to C, then move C to Buffer)
Basically, position 2 moves the second letter first, and the other cases are normal.

This is just the pattern I saw when learning Pures, and A9s don't fit into it. I can't tell based on the position of the buffer and the order of the letters whether to start with a quarter turn or a half turn. I presume I'm thinking about it all wrong and curious how others handle it.

Hi!

I've been blind solving for a while now and I feel it's time to learn something new. I use M2/OP for execution and letters for edges with visual corners. I've been looking into TuRBo and BH a little bit but I thought I might as well ask here to get your opinion on what should come next. My PB is 2:01.xy but I'm usually in the 2:20-2:30 range.

Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend using commutators for corners. BH is a good base for that. Don't learn TuRBo. It's not that much faster than M2, but has a different buffer. You might as well switch to comms for edges so you can keep your buffer.

Ok, thank you for your answer. Except for byu's tutorial. Is there some tutorial that talks more about how to adapt it for BLD solving?

Nope. Try reducing all cases to A perm, some very easy pure commutator (8 mover) that has two stickers on U face and pure with two stickers on D face or D layer and not face, that are interchagneable or if not than U2 method.

Try it. See how it goes. If you find some ugly case, do search for an alg or some fast up to 2 moves easy to see setup. Practice.

To the 4BLD solvers:
In 4BLD do you always go about the center targets in the same order or do you pick for easier memo or comms?
I find myself doing the latter occasionally...
