When should I start learning 3-style? I am avgeraging about 2:20 but PB is 1:52. My memo is around one minute so exec is about 1:20. Should I just keep practicing (if so, which part should I focus on) or start learning 3-style?

I use m2/op btw.

You can learn it whenever you want to, but it certainly is not the easiest way for you to get faster. If you're bored of M2/OP and want something more interesting/challenging, 3-style is the perfect thing. If you want to get faster as quickly as possible though, you should try to find the weaknesses in your solves and eliminate them. 1:20 execution is a little slow even for M2/OP. Try to do solves where you don't pause at all during execution. The key to this is think-ahead. Anticipate the next target while you're doing the current one so that you can know your setup move before it happens. If you're already turning pretty much without stopping, the only thing to do is turn faster. Faster execution will lead to faster memo etc. Pushing your memo is also extremely important.

With some smart practice, you should be around 1:30 fairly soon. That's when I recommend starting to add in 3-cycles. But again, it's never too early to start learning.

~lot of smart words~

I need to pause less. I am switching back to audio for edges cause it is faster. I'll wait til I avg 1:30. That was my plan. I have dropped one minute in six days so I am going to keep practicing and hopefully drop more. How fast do you think exec could get with m2/op. I avg 22 on 3x3 if that means anything.

I've had a few sub-40s with M2/OP, but they were on relatively easy scrambles.

Ok. I have a few questions about my memory system.
1) I created a journey of my letterpair image list from start to finish at a local state park. I use multiple images for certain pairs so it ended up being quite a long journey(>300 loci). I made this over a couple of days so I am worried about ghost images. Should I keep the journey as a long term reference for time attacks or should I try to clear it so I can use the 300 loci? How long should I wait untill I use a journey like this? I am worried that there will be ghost images for at least a month.

2) I started making documents of pictures for my images. I am at D and realize that this is going to be a lot of work. For the people that have made picture lists, did you find it helpful? In general, was the effort worth it?

3) As I said before, I have multiple Images for some pairs since my letterpairs are organized very phonetically. I don't ever mix up the pairs and they do help me create more memorable loci, but I sometimes think of 2 at once(like a PyRamid and PoRygon), which slows me down. Will this fix itself and speed up with practice or should I cut my list down to 1 image/letterpair?

4)I have also noticed that some of my worst solves happen when I place a letterpair at a loci and then notice that I misread the sticker and used the wrong letterpair. I seem to be really bad at erasing my mistake during memo. I have tried using pick up cycles but they take me a while to figure out and don't seem to payoff unless it is something like wing memo. What should I do to fix this since I seem to make this mistake much more often when I try to memo at a faster pace than I am comfortable with?

I realize that this is a lot to ask. Any advice would be appreciated.

I memo like this. I find four letters. Then I make two words/images or if it is good just one. Do you think this is good?

Pair of letters = One word. Example = CTHK = CaT on a HiKe

Personally, I find making one word out of four letters too cumbersome and wastes time during memo and execution.

1) I am a little confused by when you will use this journey. mBLDs?
2) I made a list of words, but I never made a picture list. I personally think you should do a large number of solves and take notes on which pairs you struggle with. Then mentally decide how you will make them more memorable next time. If that doesn't help, then you should get a picture online for that pair.
3) I have multiple words for one letter pair, I find this helpful because it makes some of my stories flow nicer. Imo, it will come with practice.
4) [stolen from Noah] Take your cube apart and make sure you can identify each piece flawlessly.

I'm not really an expert, but hope this helps

I only do four letters if I find something easy like LUCK or something along those lines. I also do like QuICK or one of the other letters missing. Besides that usually just do two. Some Qs are hard. Like QM. What to do for QM? I just audio usually for the weird ones. Like I would queem.

When you practice memorizing with sentences a lot then this gets easier and easier. For that example I just so happen to know a girl called Katherine. CTH will produce the audio part of Catherine and the K basically turns the image into "CaTHerine with a K." A bit weird but use anything you can.

For me personally it provides a huge advantage in big cube BLD or multi because it engages the imagination part of memorization which in turn makes the images more vivid and interesting. i.e. TN is usually TaN but if for some reason I decide to use TeNt instead (it might fit the story better) I'll: 1. be pleased with myself and remember that pair effortlessly in recall and 2. have that letter pair image in my 'repertoire' for future solves. Variation is good for the imagination and association parts.

I'd only say that it isn't the speediest thing to do in 3bld. I'm currently trying to decide on a object and person for each letter pair to reduce the thinking time in memo now I'm ranging from 10-15s.

You are actually a great example of multiple words for a pair. I have my "repertoire" in a notebook from whenever I used something different in a solve and I agree that it helps my larger attempts like 5BLD. Do you think it would make sense to comproise and have a set pair for 3BLD, but a "repertoire" for all of the larger events?

There may be an advantage, I'm not sure to be honest. I may decide to discard the '3bld repertoire' idea if it is just as fast/faster to make up words on the fly. Hopefully someone good at 3bld can tell you :)

The only input I can provide here is that you might naturally have different words for 3bld and 5bld already. There will be some letter pairs that only occur on big cubes bld and not 3bld. Quite often if I can't think of a good image that works for a particular letter pair on 3bld I will just use an audio sound or visual, so I might actually be missing some images.

I have it all in my head. Every word I use is one that at some point came up organically, as in I thought of it on the fly the first time I used it. I like to think that my memo is very natural as a result, but I'm sure making a list is just as good.

My list is fairly natural. I didn't really use the SS list for much. They were words that I came with on the spot during solves execpt I didn't always come up with the same thing so I wrote them down. Now I have multiple images to use for a case and they sometimes flood in at once. Maybe I am trying to improve too quickly and I am incorrectly blaming my methods for my slowness. I still have so much about my solves to improve.
