Re: One answer BLD question thread blind

My memo is 10 minutes because I like to recheck it a lot. Should I recheck less to lower my memo time?

Your memo will get faster with time. Just keep practicing and gain more confidence in your memo. In no time it will be about 2 minutes.

1. Do you guys go "all out" on every solve in competition? For example, my fastest memo pace atm is 15-20 seconds. Should I do this memo pace on every solve and hope I can get at least one of them? Or should my first solve be a "safe solve" and then I go from there?

2. How do you guys calm down in competition/in public? I find that I can easily BLD at home, but then all of a sudden when I do it at school/in comp I get really nervous and I forget cycles that I thought I drilled down pat. Is this natural/what should I do?

In Germany there are two rounds most of the time. And if you want to have a third solve in the first round, you have to get a success (<4min) in one of the first two solves. So I do the first solve safe most of the time, the other two in the first round as fast as possible. In the final mostly like that too, but sometimes even all 3 of them as fast as I can, one of them will be a success nevertheless :)

To calm down I listen to music and do sighted solves before my official solves.

so ive been practicing bld now for like a week and a half now a decent ammount. got my time to between 5-6 minuets with like a little under 50 % accuracy seeing as im always worrying about my memo. still havent got around to learning m2 lol. am i doing alright as for me progression? how long did it take most of you to get sub 3 ish??

You're doing fine. Just keep trying to get more comfortable with BLD and you'll be sub-3:00 soon. I think sub-3:00 was about a month after my first success and about 2 weeks after I started practicing obsessively.

I am having trouble now. I didn't used to have trouble with this. Now I am trying to improve my memo. I use letter pair images for each. I memo in about 1:20. I only review the first image of each. When I put the blinfold on I just cannot remember my memo. I usually have a string of images and I will forget one or two. What tips do you have to help me remember?

Make your images INTERACT!

Tell a STORY!

Slow down... Take your time making images.

I am using M2 for edges and still Old Pochmann for corners. I think I need to move for new method for corners.
I have read that BH is very efficient. But for this one have to learn a lot of algs.
Cubing is not my main hobby and I don't have time to learn many algs. I need better corner method with not so many algorithms to learn.
I am thinking about R2. What do you think?
Are there methods for corners when one does not have to learn tons of algs?

Instead of learning full BH you can start to incorporate the occasional commutator in your solves and keep using OP for the harder cases.
Don't "study" BH algs, try to make up your own comms first and only then look for better algs.
This will give you a better understanding of comms / BH.
