Yikes. How long had you been.. erm.. BLDing when you got to ~1:10? And what methods were you using? I think with practice I could get my M2 edges pretty fast but OP corners seems really hard to do that quickly :/

I started doing BLD about a month after I started cubing (so about September 2009) and I was ~1:10 in July 2010. OP corners can be fast if you can spam Y perms, but you would need more than 4 times the TPS to be as fast as someone using BH/3style.
 
For memo, I use letter pairs to make words/sentences. I don't have a set list, but I'm thinking of starting one because every so often I get a memo that gives two letters that I can't really think of a good word for. So kind of a multi part question, but is making a set list really beneficial? And what would you do if you didn't have the set list like me and had a letter pair you couldn't think of something for? Thanks.

A set list of letter-pairs doesn’t take as much effort to construct nowadays as it would've a little while ago (thanks to the wiki). However, obviously it still requires a lot of time to memorise all the pairs.

As Aron and Daniel Sheppard (surely others too) have demonstrated, if you practice BLD enough it’s possible to memorise a list of letter-pairs simply through the experience of making up words on the spot. There might be the need for some pre-memorised words for difficult letters (these may include X, U, V, Q).

Constructing and memorising a list is probably the biggest BLD initiative I’ve taken, and it was well worth it. It’s such a comforting feeling to know that you can easily memorise the cycles without having to worry about difficult letters.

I have a list and occasionally review it with the Anki flashcard program.
I should actually do this more often as I still have some letter pairs that "escape" me.

During memo I also still make up words on the fly to make them better fit into my story.
Afterwards I will add these to Anki too so I have several words per letter pair.

It's completely up to the solver to decide what algorithm is fastest, because not everyone has the same finger-tricks.

However, I think most 3style solvers would prefer to solve this with a U-perm. The setup can be cancelled with the first move of the U-perm, and the last turn of the U-perm can cancel with the undo of the setup: R (R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R) R' = R' U' R' U' R U R U R U'

The nice thing about speedBLD is it doesn't really even require any additional practice to do it. Just give it a try, and you'll find that you can! It's hard, but almost any serious speedsolver can do it - it just takes commitment and lots of time. Just figure out the moves you need to do a step, then make sure you commit them to memory by going over them in your head a bunch of times (most sub-30 speedsolvers shouldn't have any trouble doing this), then trace the pieces you need for the next step one piece at a time to see how you can solve them, and repeat step by step until you've figured out the whole thing. There are tricks you should ideally use to make it better; for instance, if you use normal CFOP, after figuring out your cross you should really figure out the location of all 4 pairs, so you can pick the best one to do next and possibly set up the second one. Also, if you can remember the location of all 4 pairs, it means you have less to trace for the second pair, and so on. Probably the most difficult is handling the last layer, since I find it's really easy to make careless mistakes tracing by then (you have to track through so many moves, and besides, you're tired by then).

Find yourself a couple of free hours and go try it! :) (I'd guess typical first tries take an hour to two hours to memorize; the good people at it can stackmat the memorization fairly easily.) (Unfortunately, I'm still quite bad at it - it takes me almost an hour to memorize.)

Yes. Memo is very hard though. I've done it with Roux a couple times...

Give yourself an hour or so to memo, it's not as hard as it looks. At first try tracking single stickers, then multiple pieces etc... And for OLL you only need to trace a few pieces, as you can deduce what it is from not all the LL pieces.

Be careful at first (nothing worse than memoing for an hour and a bit to a pop or something)... Then you'll be surprised how fast you get fast. I got quite fast after just a few tries, and was also surprised at how easy it was suddenly...

Also, a tip: use commutators when you can so you only affect a few pieces.

1. I just memo in one pass and go (I am not too fast and am slow though so meh)
2. i havn't watched the whole thing, rather new and really in depth

A while ago I vaguely remember discussing this with Aron. If I recall correctly he practised by rushing the memo, I on the other hand, progressed by memorising at a relaxing pace and gradually speeding up. He improved a lot faster than me, but it seems his accuracy may have been negatively affected. In my opinion rushing your memo will give the fastest improvement (in speed not accuracy).

today I did few solves actually (I almost never do actual solves, only memo/execution practice).

and I've tried memo rush. I was disappointed when I discovered that my very fastest memo was around 31 seconds.
while doing memo it seems to me like I did it in ~15secs, then I look timer and it says: ~43. Whatthe?!

what is wrong with my memo?

I do memo without callback before solve, so straight forward, I recognize pieces well and convert them to corresponding letter very quickly, corners are also fine...
