On a 3x3x3 cube, find the shortest possible algorithm that swaps two consecutive corners without affecting any of the other six corners.
The edges may be affected in any way you like.
Or, more simply, find the shortest algorithm that swaps two consecutive corners without affecting the rest of the cube.

I always find peoples first post choices very interesting.

I don't know about your first question, but your second one is in fact not more simple; its impossible. You have to have an even number of 2 swaps for it to be a legal position.

I meant for swapping two corners on a 2x2x2 without affecting the rest of the cube, and I edited my original comment. and that IS possible with the algorithm R' F R' B2 R F' R' B2 R2 U'. But it may not be the shortest.
You are correct in stating that it is impossible on a 3x3x3.

R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' is more fingertricky.

At the moment I'm trying to create a set of algs for SSC that orients the last 5 corners while also inserting the last e-slice piece (for more information see here https://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?54056-SSC-(Shadowslice-Snow-Columns)-3x3x3-Method))

This would have (27x4=108) typical sets to check as well as one antisune case, and one anticlockwise spiral (that is with the e-slice not solved) + 21 where it is already solved to give a total of 131 cases to sort through.

However, this can be reduced to quite a few smaller states- 1/4 of the 108 options in the "unsolved e-slice" group have already been figured out using WV leaving 81 more cases and 1/3 of the "solved e-slice" has been covered by COLL leaving 14 more of that group. This leaves 95 more cases to go through.

I, myself, am generating the algs for the solved e-slice so there is still 81 more algs to work through.

So would anyone be willing to help me through the 81 remaining algs?

Hello! i am looking for a very specific algorithm.

Setup: R U R' U R U R' U' R U2 R'

Goal: find the shortest (or all the shortest) algorithms which solve the last slot and phase last layer while preserving F2L and edge orientation. (HTM or STM)
