Learning an alg that's bad but easy to learn because "I'll fix it later" is a mistake that pretty much all of us have made at some point, and we've all regretted it.
I don't consider it a mistake and I don't regret it.
It's sort of arguably true that you waste time by learning an easy alg first and then replacing it with a fast alg later, but it's easier to learn the fast alg as a replacement than to learn it right from the start (you already know how to recognise the case and the easy alg and the fast alg might have similarities) and sometimes the alternative to learning an easy alg is not learning any algs at all, rather than learning a hard alg.
When it comes to algs with weird fingertricks, you also should decide at some point whether the algs you're learning are "good enough", rather than constantly chasing for whatever some 10-year-old posts on their YouTube channel every other week – you'll never get good at the algs with weird fingertricks if you keep changing them around. This is in direct violation of the oft-repeated mantra that one should learn the best algs and only the best algs, and yet is a completely reasonable course of action.
(This is not an opinion I hold especially strongly, and surely part of it comes from trying to rationalise my "bad" alg learning decisions. On a meta level, however, I've seen (and am continuing to see) lots of people treating entirely subjective matters as if they're objective. (See also: the second section of
this post in an unrelated thread where I rant about abusing the word "objective".) How one should approach learning something
will differ from person to person; forcefully claiming that there's always a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't make said approach magically exist. Regardless of how true "you should learn only the best algs" is, there is very little evidence that it really is true, which means (i) you shouldn't state it as accepted fact and (ii) you should treat anyone stating it as accepted fact with a lot of scepticism, because you can't trust that anything else they say is founded on evidence.)

Also, I do D-first RUD G perms, but there's this
one ZBLL alg where I do D last because it seemed nicer that way.
