Any good alternatives for Ja perm instead of R' U L' U2.....?

It sucks.

I can sub 1 second this ja (L' U2) L U (L' U2) R U' L U R' it requires a left double-flick though I haven't been able to find a good finger trick with the right handed double flick so if you cant do that this alg isn't for you

Yes, however if you are looking for a cheap long lasting lube try Traxxas 30K differential oil, it's only 7 dollars a bottle on amazon. I have used it probably on ten different cubes and the bottle is still almost full. Silicone spray is safe for the plastic though.

Is traxxxas safe on the plastic?

It doesn't suck!
But if you really hate RUL, you could either mirror J perm and do it LUF, or use [F R U' R': T perm].

I can't understand how people can survive without lefty double flick. Seriously... I do almost all of my U2s as double lefty flick, because my right hand is often doing other stuff, and U' U' is slow. U2' is one of the most useful things I know.

I'm nearly sub 20 and can plan my entire cross in inspection. Should I be looking to track first pair?
Yes. Turn slowly during your cross. It's better if you can see two pieces to track in inspection, but if you can spot two pieces during your cross that's good too. Try to not pause at all between the cross and the first pair.

ParadoxCubing's Beginner CFOP series. Go search it up on YouTube.

Hi. I've got a quick question.

I am trying to memorise T-perm. So I start with a solved cube, do the T-perm and (looking from the top) I end up with the top-right and bottom right corners swapped, and the left-middle and right-middle edges swapped, as you would expect.

So then I do another T-perm expecting it to put the cube back to a solved state and it ends up looking like it's had two opposite t-perms done to it.

So I play with it some more and I realise that is what has happened. So once I have done a t-perm to a solved cube I have to rotate the cube 180 across the y-axis in order to solve it with another t-perm.

So that made me think: when I'm trying to solve how can I tell whether I need to have the corners to be swapped on the right of the cube, or on the left? Both cases look the same to my untrained eye.

I hope this question makes sense.

Default How to get sub 30 on 3x3
I am able to do the cross in 3-5 sec. F2L in 15-20 and oll and pll in 5-10 sec. I know 2 step oll and 1 step pll. What is the next major mile stone I need to get under 30 seconds. I would love your expert and/or intermediate opinions.

I just re-read that and it doesn't even make sense to me...

To explain further I am going of Bob's Cubewhiz site, where the T-perm show the cube starting in this position:

pll10.gif

And requiring these moves to do:

[z] U2' R' U2' R U2' R L' U2' R U2' R' U2' Rw.

But for the T-perm to solve using those moves I find I need the cubes original position to be reversed.

To me this suggests one of three things:

1. I am reading the notation wrong (quite likely).
2. The notation or diagram is reveresed (not so likely).
3. There are two types of T position.

Can anyone shed some light please?

Don't use that T perm. Use R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F'. That doesn't rotate the cube.

Ideally for sub 30 based on this thread, you want at most 3.6 cross, 15 F2L, 4.95 OLL, and 6.45 PLL.
Assuming your cross is sub 8 moves most of the time, I suggest working mostly on F2L and recognition. You can watch some example solves on youtube to see how/where you can improve your F2L. A good way to see which cases you know and improve F2L is to try to do each F2L pair blindfolded. If you can't do a certain case blindfolded, learn how to do that case and practice until you can.
You can learn the easy OLLs that you get from knowing 2 look OLL to get that OLL time down. Work on fingertricks and try to get all of OLL and PLL done in around 5 sec.
Doing lots of slow, untimed solves can help too.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Also: do you rate the Y=perm from that site?

R2 U' R' U R U' [x'] U' [z'] U' R U' R' U' [z] U R

Or do you have a better one?
