People like Feliks and Mats probably know full COLL and I don't think I've ever seen them use a 3-flip alg before, though. (I do use it, but only to increase the chances of getting ZBLL.)

1. Sorry I'm blind
2. True, but they know full OLL. I don't know full OLL, but I know COLL, is it worth it to do the 4 extra moves?

It's not just four extra moves; it's four extra moves and possibly one or two regrips if your hands start and end in the neutral position (thumbs on front). For me it's slightly faster to do 3-flip rather than, say, 1-flip followed by F U R U' R' F' or F R U R' U' F', but this might not be true for you. This also depends on how much of OLL you know; if you "don't know full OLL" but know all the cases with two adjacent edges flipped (or all the cases with two opposite edges flipped), you can always do the 1-flip parity alg to get an OLL case you know.

Hello, I average 38 seconds on 3x3. I am signed up for a competition with a time limit of 2 minutes for 4x4, and a cutoff of 1:30. I averaged around 3 minutes with redux, and I learned yau yesturday. I've done 12 solves, the best of which was a 3:17.

My competition is on January 20th, and I'm willing to put work in, I just don't know the splits to be shooting for, or if I'm on the right path. It feels that during 3-2-3, I always have a weird case where the edge I need is already being used in another pairing.

Also, is it smarter to train my cross and centers until I hit the correct splits for a 1:30-2:00, then move on to the next step, or is it smarter to train the whole solve each time. Thanks!

Any useful resources and pointers would be appreciated! (also my 3x3 main is thunderclap v1, and 4x4 is mf4) I have a cubicle gans air sm and a cubicle wuque 4x4 on the way in 3 days)

PLL : 2R2 U2 2R2 u2 2R2 2U2

OLL : (F2 r2' F2 U2') (r U2 r' U2' r2) (F2 r U2 r' U2' r)

OLL + PLL : r2 B2 (r' U2 r' U2') (x') U2 r' U2' r U2 r' U2' r2 U2' (x)

H + PLL : (m2 U m' U2 m U) (2L2 U2 2R2 u2 2R2 u2)

Z + PLL (1) : (m' U' m2 U' m2 U' m' U2') (2L2 U2 2R2 u2 2R2 u2)

Z + PLL (2) : (m2 U' m' U2' m2 U2' m' U) (2L2 U2 2R2 u2 2R2 u2)

Hi all! I'm new here. Nice to meetcha!'

I decided to re-learn the 4x4 after having solved it a few times in the past.

All was going well, until I encountered the following problem.

4x4 Stuck.png

Threw it together real quick in photoshop, so please ignore the laziness of it.

Any suggestions on what I can do here? I'm stumped. I don't believe I've ever come across this situation on a 3x3 before, and I'm solving it like one now.

Thanks everyone!

I use reduction when i solve the 4x4. But when I try to solve the last layer it always gets messed up in some way, and no it is not parity. I use the same algoritms as when i solve the 3x3 but they dont work. Sometimes my edges get split up and sometimes i just get stuck on OLL. If someone has any idea how to fix this problem please help me, thanks!

My guess is that if you have an OLL case that requires a double turn layer (e.g. r or f) you actually need to turn three layers of the cube simultaneously instead, so that the paired dedges are treated as a single unit by the alg.

Hey, can anyone help me? I have heard many times before that rotation during Yau first three edges is never necessary. But how do I insert edges in the back with always the correct orientation? Sometimes, it doesn't work to just insert normally.

I haven't heard that, but it makes sense. I would go with some variant on L U or L2 F', depending on orientation.

I've recently been trying to improve on 4x4 and was wondering if there are any alg subsets specifically for 4x4. Obviously on 3x3 there's stuff like WV and ZBLL anything similar that is not on the 3x3 portion of 4x4? Thanks!

Whats the best way to switch from cross edges on bottom to cross edges on left for yau?
Make sure to rotate so that your first two centres are on the left and the right when you finish them, and then you literally just form the cross edges on the left. There isn't much else to say about it.
