You should seriously start doing it on the bottom now man I know its gonna feel weird at first and probably slow you down but it'll be worth it.... When you switch don't worry about the 15s inspection time take as long as you want to plan out a solid cross... When I used to use CFOP doing bld crosses really help me out. So just sit down for maybe 10-15 minutes or so everyday and just do BLD crosses you can spend more time on it if you like but the key as always is practice!
PS I'm pretty sure a sub 2 cross is pretty fast for a 20s solver getting it down to 3s should be more than enough for sub 20

Thanks man

mostly i need to work on f2l identification. *gag* 12-15 secs *choke* 2look oll 1 look Pll avg of 12 is 26.xx PB 15.48

Haha yeah dude for sure grind out that f2l LL stuff just kinda comes naturally obviously you can practice it but try to focus your efforts on the majority of the solve which is cross and f2l

If you can solve F2L, OLL and PLL in just ~15 sec after you've spent 5 sec on the cross you're fast enough to get way better times in your cross if you plan the whole during your inspection time. Do it on the bottom, and take as long as you need to plan how to solve the whole thing. Even planning 3 out of the 4 pieces and solving the last one on the fly is a great slow-down because having solved so little of the cube means there's a lot of places for that last piece to hide in. Memorize the moves you'll need to solve the cross and when you start the timer execute them while looking for your first f2l pair, don't check to see if you actually solved it properly, trust your plan (you'll mess up and completely ruin your solve a few times but you'll get better and better at it the more you do it).

How to solve cross more efficiently?

I own a 3*3 dayan zhanchi...
I need to speedcube, although i know 2 look oll and 1 look pll,
i have a problem in solving cross. I take around 6 seconds to solve the cross and around 30 seconds to solve the cube..
Can you suggest some efficient way of solving the cros?

First of all, you should really not make new threads for this stuff. There are many help threads and resources already, just use the searchbar, google and youtube.

I also don't see how most of that stuff is relevant if you want tips for cross.

Then the actual tips:

Plan the entire cross in inspection, no matter how it takes, and solve it on the bottom. You can practice this by doing crossBLD solves
Watch example solves of other people that are faster than you

Beginner, practicing advanced cross and color schemes

hi all. im trying to learn advanced cross for the first time. atm, im planning the whole cross before starting (while before i hadn't). this mostly involves imagining how the cube ends up after each turn.

but, i've heard knowing your color scheme helps immensely, and so my question is would it be more efficient to just learn this first? and if so, isn't it much harder for color neutral solvers to master, as there are 24 combinations to familiarize?

basically, how did you fast cubers (especially cn solvers) first approach learning the advanced cross in regards to color schemes.

I solve cross on white. First step with colour scheme was knowing Orange Blue Red were in that order. Naturally from that came Red Green Orange, because of opposites. Even 9 months into advanced CFOP, I only get my entire cross in inspection about 50% of the time. Otherwise, I mostly get 2 or 3 moves from solved. Learn how to affect multiple pieces at once, and have a look at many walkthrough solves. These help significantly. FYI my cross is probably 2-3s and I ave 17s.

In my opinion there aren't 24 combinations you have to memorize by 6. The six colours of the cube as they are all on the same layer it doesn't really matter where the edges are exactly the, just that they are in the right order. Also opposites are opposite. Once you know the order for the pieces around the white are blue, red, green & orange. You know the colour skeem for the yellow face is orange, green, red & blue.

When you add to all that the fact that you already know 1, whatever it is you have been learning, you only have 2 more to learn.

You don't need to remember things like: "if I have white on bottom and red in front, then green will be in right"
(if you really want to then you can learn 4x4 centers)

In short:
Look for the four pieces,
See where each needs to go,
Judge how you can best cancel moves,
Apply moves

thanks for reply, this was what i was referring to. so you dont think knowing neighboring colors is necessary for fast cross plans?

when you put edges down off-center (and fix later with one move), wouldn't it be easier if you instantly knew which color it's adjacent to?

or am i going about this the wrong way?

I don't memorize the combination for each cross side.
let me clarify, i don't permanently memorize them, i only memorize them during the cross planning stage

When I select which cross I'm doing, it is only then I take a look around and note of how centers are positioned in relation to each other.

It's like,
I don't know them off by heart,
but when I do look at them, I can store them in my mind long enough for the cross stage.

edit:

yes, knowing adjacents and opposites are necessary,
but spending extra effort to memorize each combination isn't needed.

it's like comprehension activity at school.
you know the words, that's your base.
== kinda know how the cross works

you read the text, you keep it in your mind for the duration of the test.
== look around the cube, see your centers, know them during cross

write your answer
== apply moves

you then forget the whole comprehension.
== move on

I would still say to stay CN or at least X2,Y CN as it is harder to switch if you are using only one cross than it is to learn to do cross on all sides

I'm color neutral and I haven't learned my color scheme until I started doing 4x4, when I averaged 17 seconds. And now I only know it when white or yellow is on the left.

How to improve your CROSS

Hi ! I open this thread to improve my cross, I make cross in 5 seconds (sooo bad:() the F2L in 10 seconds or less and Im learning OLL and I know full PLL (unless 3 G), so I average 25 or 26 seconds, so how do I improve my cross ?

Thanks ! :tu:tu

Are you pausing during your cross, or just making it inefficiently? Also, are you color neutral?

I guess the key is to have the solution memorized.
What I do is to take all the time I need to memorize the cross. Not only 15 seconds.
Then I close my eyes and solve the cross. Then handscramble and do the same again and again.
After a while, the time you need to memorize it will drop and you can start looking for pairs, maybe x-cross and so on.

ok, I will try !!
