I'm averaging ~2:15 on 4x4 with a weird Yau-Redux combo. I do Centers->White Cross(edge pairing)->3-2-3->3x3 Stage. I do that because It's like 30 sec faster than me just doing normal Yau, although I don't have much practice with yau. What should I be practicing to improve? Also, my 3x3 average(3x3 puzzle, not 3x3 stage) is ~20 seconds.
Just practice normal Yau. You can get sub 1:30 really easily with some practice.

Hey,
I'm finding the way I do the Edge Flip alg really slow, with 3 REGRIPS, and I believe it increases my time a lot when there are some cases in a solve.

The alg i'm using is:
R U R' F R' F' R



Here is a video of my execution, first slow, showing my regrips, and the last at normal speed.




I wonder if there is a better way to do it, a better alg or a good fingertrick

Watch any fast big cube solve in slow motion to see how the pros do it. I think your execution is fairly close to the standard one, so you probably just need to drill it a bunch; the F' with your right thumb shouldn't really be a regrip.

Alternatively, you can also try R' F R F' R U' R'. The fingertricks for this should be fairly obvious: just do whatever you do for a sledge, then whatever you do for a 3-move F2L insert.

3-2-3 kills the two back-slot blind spots earlier and thus provides better lookahead, in addition to having less weird cases to care about.

6-2 is probably slightly more efficient on average, but as it requires a ≥6-cycle, weird cases show up more frequently. On the other hand, it also makes better use of pre-paired edges compared to 3-2-3: if you have one free edge pair, 6-2 becomes just 6 (one step), while 3-2-3 becomes 3-2-2 or 2-2-3 (still three steps).

(I'm a hipster and do 2-4-3 instead of either of those.)

i don’t think it’s possible to have an impossible EPLL case with more than 2 incorrect edges, can you describe it? i might be mistaken

I was doing a 4x4 solve and when I got to EPLL, I had an impossible case(no Z U or H). After doing PLL parity, I had adjacent PLL parity with the rest solved. Why did I have to do double PLL parity?
Because you messed up somewhere.

The two main possibilities I can think of are:
(i) You executed the PLL parity alg wrongly, and it ended up not fixing parity the first time you did it.
(ii) You did really have a U/Z/H perm, but misrecognised it.

What do you mean by that? Doing adjacent parity instead of opposite?

(ii) You did really have a U/Z/H perm, but misrecognised it.

It's possible it was a Z-Perm, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. It doesn't really matter overall anyway

Imagine, for example, if you did:
Uw2 Rw2 U2 Rw2 Rw2 U2 Rw2 Uw2

instead of:
Uw2 Rw2 U2 Rw2 R2 U2 Rw2 Uw2

or something along those lines. I wouldn't know exactly what happened; people can be very creative in doing things wrongly.

When it comes to doing the top layer on a 4x4, they say it’s supposed to be the easiest part. Every YouTuber and source online says that you need to “solve it like a 3x3” but the colours on top are completely different than the colours on top of a 4x4. I know what parity is and I know the algorithm. Also, when would I use this parity algorithm?
