Most people start with the 2 gen cases for U or T.

I've noticed that. Why is that?
Are they generally better algs than the other ZBLLs?

edit: i'm not trying to decide which ones to start with, I'm just wondering which subsets are generally faster, if there is any noticeable difference

I think recog is supposed to be better, because on the oriented adjacent corners you have a greater ability to see and recognize block patterns.

Hi all, first post, hopefully won't just be this though. Having trouble with my back faces. I generally solve the entire cube with no rotations, red face facing me the whole time. I'm trying to bring some rotations into my solve to make things easier. My issue is with the back face though.

With a solved cube, use B', U', B. How do I solve this in the most efficient way possible? Currently I don't rotate and use my ring fingers (inverse of the above) but it involves lots of wrist/hand movement. If I rotate the cube, it feels like two cube rotations (second one to bring my red face back to the front) and also seems to be slowing me down.

Any advice?

This isn't a good thing unless you use ZZ. There isn't a reason to never rotate when you have misoriented edges. Just rotate and do the 3 move insert while evaluating the next case.

Sometimes I do something like U l U L' U' M' instead of y R' U R or y' L F' L' F. That's when I see that what comes next will be better if I don't rotate.

y R' U R or y' L' U L or y' r' F r is the best solution imo. You don't have to rotate back. Having red facing you all the time is unessesarily restrictive and you'll be much faster without it.

If you really don't want to rotate, I guess f' L f is okay.

2 gen cases are easy to learn first because most of them are just a combination of 2 sunes.

Hello Everyone, I would like to ask if there is any notably good algs and users of those algs with E-turns? I like absolutely never see this move done, and it seems like the most used slice by far, how do people even hold it without feeling awkward? Lol

E turns are weird, I assume that the most used slice is M though. At least in classic speedsolve.

I know people use it for edge 3-cycles.

Yeah, I know M slice is used a lot, and S slice I have seen in some algorithms, but like the E turn.... ew. haha

There's really no point for sighted solves. You can just do U D at the same time, much better than E

In Roux method it's used during first block. You can see it in Guroux solves for example. And also in 3bld when solving with comms. For example Marcin Zalewski or Maskow use it in a plenty of algs.

Edit: you can see it in the last solve in 17th second:

I am unable to get the Headlights OLL alg to work. I've tried multiple different variations and with them facing me and facing away. I recently took my cube apart to lube it, but can solve it just not using the Headlights alg. With Headlights facing me I use (R2 D) (R' U2) (R D') (R' U2 R'). No matter the alg or orientation I end up pulling a corner piece into the top layer. Any help is really appreciated!

That's the right alg and the right orientation, so you're probably performing at least one of the individual moves incorrectly.

If I had to guess, I'd bet you're performing the Ds wrong. I was able to get a result like the one you're describing when I do:
(R2 D') (R' U2) (R D) (R' U2 R').

You're doing your D's reverse from what they're supposed to be. Give it a shot and let us know how that works out for ya.

Wow....I feel like an idiot now. Thanks for the fast reply and ensuring me I haven't lost my mind!

You could also just do R U R' U R U2 R2 U' R U' R' U2 R and avoid D moves for now. The D move alg is probably better but it can be awkward for beginners sometimes.

Hello World! My first post here, so go easy on me.
I've been using CFOP for 1 month (so basically I started speedcubing 1 month ago) and my PB is 31.03 and best ao5 35.20.
I really want to be sub 30 - 25 as fast as possible. I've trained look-ahead with the metronome technique. I solve with 2 look PLL and learned 14/22 OLL algs.
Any suggestions on how to get faster?

I think you messed up OLL and PLL in your post, I think you mean 2 look OLL and 14/22 PLLs.

Anyway, at this speed, I would suggest watching walkthrough solves from faster people. If you watch and learn all the techniques from a lot of good walkthrough solves will make your cross and F2L a lot more effecient. If you just play around with cases that you can't solve very efficiently, you can also discover easy ways to solve different F2L cases.

Thank you very much for the help! I will surely try to learn from walkthrough solves.

Thanks again!
