I don't understand what the slashes mean... Can you explain?
i think U/U'/U2 means you could try U or U' or U2...
I am new to commutators and I did try to come up with my own before asking but mine didn't work. So here it is. I am trying to work out a 3-cycle for 4x4 centers that does not affect the edges. The closest I have gotten is l' U2 r U2 l r' but this affects the edges too. If any one has or could come up with a good alg I would be vary appreciative! thanks!
l' U2 r U2 l r' = [l' U2 , r] = [A,B]
A = l' U2 . It affects the "l layer" and the "U layer".
B = r . It affects the "r layer".
("l layer" and the "U layer") ∩ ("r layer") = the four "Ur cubies"
A brought the four "Fl cubies" into ("l layer" and the "U layer") ∩ ("r layer").
B brought the four "Fr cubies" into ("l layer" and the "U layer") ∩ ("r layer").
So pieces affected by the commutator are the four "Ur cubies" + the four "Fl cubies" + the four "Fr cubies"
You should try something like this [l' , U r U'] = l' U r U' l U r' U'
A = l' . It affects the "l layer".
B = U r U' . It affects the "r layer" except the 4 "Ur cubies" but the 4 "Ub cubies"
(the "l layer") ∩ (the "r layer" except the 4 "Ur cubies" but the 4 "Ub cubies") = the "UBL X center (on U)"
A brought the "FRU X center (on F)" into (the "l layer") ∩ (the "r layer" except the 4 "Ur cubies" but the 4 "Ub cubies").
B brought the "FUL X center (on F)" into (the "l layer") ∩ (the "r layer" except the 4 "Ur cubies" but the 4 "Ub cubies").
So pieces affected by the commutator are the "UBL X center (on U)" + the "FRU X center (on F)" + the "FUL X center (on F)"
