Hello everyone, my name is ViperStriker and I have been cubing for a month now. I can do the cube using the begginers method and F2L. But my question is, what should I learn next if I want to improve my time? Ive started learning 2-look PLL and OLL, but im not sure if that the correct way to go... Please help me! ;)

Btw, my current average using F2L is 1.12s.

Okay, I'm going to assume you're not a troll and that you mean 1 minute 12 seconds, or 1:12. Honestly, just make sure you're using F2L 100% of the time, and just practice it for a good couple of weeks. Also try to start solving your cross on the bottom. After this, then you can start learning 2 Look OLL and 2 Look PLL. I would recommend to learn 2 Look OLL first however, It will drop your times more. And you should also look at this thread, it's very helpful. http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/s...-to-Get-Faster-using-the-Fridrich-CFOP-Method

OLL/PLL for Dropping Averages

Hi speedcubers,

I have been cubing for about two months with my Moyu Weilong - I have been rather lazy with practice.

Two questions:

1. With an average solve of ~30 seconds, an F2L (including cross) average of ~20 seconds, what would my average drop to if I learn full OLL/PLL? Assume my F2L average doesn't change in the mean time.

2. If I start learning 2x2 and 5x5, what will my averages for each start out with after two weeks of practice?

Thanks in advance,
Rainbow Flash

For 2x2, if you continue to use a LBL method, you can definitely get to < 10 seconds easily. With Ortega, you can get to < 6 seconds.
For 5x5, I'd guess a bit over 3 minutes, at least that's where I were after two weeks of somewhat inconsistent practice.

Also, consider learning full PLL before taking on full OLL.

His OLL #40, why does the second alg set start with a y2?
I mean, it's an OLL, wouldn't just making a U2 be much faster? He does it in another OLL case, also.

Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong or something, I don't now.

Its just to signify a different angle. If you get it in a case, you always just use U2 or w/e unless its in the middle of the alg.

l' U' L U' L' U L U' L' U2 l is from the orientation of the image

[y2] r' U' R U' R' U R U' R' U2 r is y2 rotation from the image as stated at the start of the alg

The algs are correct

Here is an alg from the y' position of the image. =P
[y'] r' U2 (R U R' U') (R U R' U) r

New to 4 look last layer. Questions on 2 look PLL recognition?

Hi,
I started cubing last month. I leaned the beginners method and was sub 1 minute in 3 weeks.
I leaned intuitive F2l and I know it pretty well I'm working on look ahead and stuff. It took me down to about 44 seconds.
I finished learning 4 look last layer today.
My OLL recognition is good.
How the corner permutation of PLL step takes me lots of topside turns to identify the case, adding on 6-8 seconds.
I was wondering if anyone had a guide for 2 look PLL corner permutation recognition.
Or any helpful tips are appreciated!

Also does anyone know how fast 4 look last layer can get?
Is 47 seconds after 1 day of CFOP 4 look last layer good?

Thanks a lot!
:)

For CP, you should look for 'headlights'. Watch this to understand what I mean by that.

Your algs may be different to those used in the video. If they are, you'll have to AUF to put the headlights wherever they need to be before doing your CP alg.

Just like Julian said, you might have to adjust the U face(AUF) in order to get the 2Look PLL. I still use 4LLL and average 27 seconds. I am learning PLL You will get better after practice. I'll make a video tomorrow about 4LLL recognition.

HELP!!! PLL 2-sided recognition Problem!!

HI!,
I am learning 2 sided PLL recognition...
However if you can recognize PLL's from 2 sides, don't you still have to do U AND U' moves to get the ALG to work?
So what is the point of learning 2 sided PLL recognition then???
Please help

Yes you will still need to do a U or U' in some instances, but how will you know which to do if you don't recognize the case?

Full OLL first or Full PLL

It's been a couple of days now. I'm still undecided if I want to learn full OLL first or full PLL first. There are some cons and pros. Still unsure though. My avg with 2 look is around 40-50 sec not to great but good for me. Pros for OLL first: Faster OLL (no kidding), faster time, CONS: a lot to learn, not as slow as PLL. CONS for PLL first: Faster PLL, faster time, learning first cuz of longer lags CONS: slower OLL,
So im un decided still.

Full PLL definitely. You can learn some easy OLLs if you want though, you could learn 7 just by doing algs that have one or two sexy moves in them. (Or inverse sexy move)

But in all honesty, just practice more if you want to start getting faster. I didn't start to learn PLL (actually I don't think I knew 2LPLL, I just knew the A perm and U perm) until I averaged about 32ish. You can get get sub 15 with only really easy OLLs (about half) fairly easily. Don't really start worrying about algs yet.
