Yes, you could probably get down to about 20 seconds using that method, if you really wanted to. But you shouldn't - you should learn F2L.

I use 4LLL and I average around 27 seconds. I have no doubt that my times will continue to go down if I keep getting better at cross and F2L. My problems are too many cube rotations, lookahead, and with those pauses. As said above it is crucial to learn F2L as well.

Hi! I'm working on learning the 2 Look OLL and PLL algorithms to improve move efficiency, but I find that I can't go very fast due to the awkward turning of the algorithms. Could anyone share some of their finger tricks for each? Thanks!

OLL: http://www.cubewhiz.com/2lookoll.php
PLL: http://www.cubewhiz.com/2lookpll.php

I often find other people's finger tricks just don't work for me.

Slow the algorithm right down, and try different fingering. Specifically, try doing U moves with your left hand, or F with right thumb, left hand, etc.

It may well be that these just aren't the algs for you. Remember that there are dozens of different algs for each OLL and PLL. Check out the wiki and see if there's something there you prefer.

If you do decide to persist with the algs you have, YouTube is your friend. Search for (e.g.) "A perm finger trick" and you'll usually find something useful.

Several cubers have posted guides in recent years, including Brad Cottom, who's done an excellent series on OLL, walking through the algs very slowly and 'teaching' them. Highly recommended - just search "brad cottom" on YouTube.

Good luck!

tips to decreasing LL time?

So basically I average around 21 seconds on 3x3 it take me around 14 seconds to finish F2l.
So it takes me like 7 seconds to finish the last layer... even though know 1 look pll :(
So I was wondering if you guys have any tips on increasing tps and turning accuracy to decrease LL time.

As a side note - I don't know if this has anything to do with it but ive been trying to turn more aggressively to increase my tps.

Whats next? 2-look OLL,PLL?

Hello everyone, my name is ViperStriker and I have been cubing for a month now. I can do the cube using the begginers method and F2L. But my question is, what should I learn next if I want to improve my time? Ive started learning 2-look PLL and OLL, but im not sure if that the correct way to go... Please help me! ;)

Btw, my current average using F2L is 1.12s.

Last layer

I've known full oll and pll for a while now and I recently tried last layer scrambles to check my time. I'm averaging about 4-5 seconds for just the last layer and I average about 14-15 seconds. So of course there's improvement needed for cross and f2l but I never thought I'd have to practice last layer until now. If Felix can solve the whole cube in the time I solve the last layer, then I can definitely improve there. So, I'm just asking for any tips on how to practice last layer. Turn speed? Recognition? Practice algs by themselves? I don't really know.

Recognition is the biggest problem I had with LL algs. I'd work on that more than anything. When I was around 14-15s, I got stuck and couldn't improve, so I went on the speedsolving wiki, picked up a few alternative algorithms that I felt were finger friendly, and then spent a few weeks practicing slow solves wherein I had no delay between f2l->oll, and oll->pll. This helped me drop my 5sec LL down to ~3 and my overall solves ended up sub 10 after all of the look ahead practice. I wouldn't worry about turnspeed. That comes with time.

Welp, I'm sub 10 with a nearly sup 4 LL, I definitely feel your pain.
Drill your algs, it helps. The next thing is remembering to turn that fast in solves on your LL. I'm a strong believer that recognition comes with time. I never tried to learn 2 sided recog, I just did.
