I do something similar - I make sure one of the front corner stickers matches the edge on the adjacent side. I recognise E perm by a kind of bullseye pattern, like GRBRG.

For the D' try pushing by extending left ring finger. I do all the D and D' moves with left ring.

I recognize E by the sticker on F between opposite headlights, if it's the same as the Corner sticker ond LB.
If they're the same, E perm. If not, either U or U' and e perm or alternate E perm, which includes a U' anyway..

I currently average about 23 seconds (for 100) on 3x3...I use fridrich and my breakdown is F2l in 13 and LL in 10. I use 4LLL.

Is there any tips for memorizing algorithms? I am horrible at it :(
Get a countdown timer (e.g. Google), and set it to a minute or two, maybe a bit more. Repeat the algorithm for the entire two minutes, pausing if you make an error. If this happens, you should solve the cube again. If you don't know where you went wrong, do it slowly with the timer off and see where you made the mistake. If you do, or afterwards, go back to doing it reasonably fast with the timer counting down. Ideally, you want to be getting bored of the alg before the timer has finished, because then you probably know it well enough. Then, try to do the alg again later in the day, before you go to bed, and finally when you wake up. If you can do it by the end, you've learned it.
Also you're really fast for someone who's still using 4lLL... you'll probably be sub-20 by the time you finish PLL.

Also, it is really not as bad as it seems, the most important is to get started. I just started myself about a week ago and I'm now working on improving my recognition. Also what I do a lot since I learned full PLL is to just perform algs when I have no intention to do full solves, or to warm me up. I try to focus the most on the ones I perform the less fast obviously. I'll have to replace some algs at some point but for now I'll keep going with the ones I learned. If you need help with recognition, TDM posted something in response to a post of mine about a week ago, you can find it here : http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?2373-The-OLL-and-PLL-help-thread&p=943291&viewfull=1#post943291. It definitely helped me, I kept going there while learning the algs to understand what I was actually looking for while recognizing cases, but the biggest factor was practice. Practicing algs, and doing lots of solves to improve recognition.

What I found the hardest is the transition, when you know a few algs, but not all of them. Since I didn't want to mix 2-look PLL and full PLL, I just stopped timing myself for about 4 days. Instead I timed my F2L, and worked the LL without pressure to take the time I needed to properly recognize a case, and when I didn't know the alg, I just read it while performing it. This helped to learn it later on since I did it already a few times before. In the end, the less algs I had to learn the more I already practiced the ones I was missing, therefore it became somehow easier to learn them toward the end. And finally don't be scared of G perms, looked bad before, but now it's actually not even the worst case.

I belive OLL will be an easier transition since you can learn them by group, like big Ls small Ls and so on, so if you see a L on top you know you can perform the algs, you can confidently recognize the case and perform the alg. I think I'll soon start with the dots at least.

Problem with OLL.

Hi guys, I have a problem.

suppose we have the following scenario:

XX¬ (The 'X's are yellow stickers.)
XXX
XX _

Whenever I execute any of the algorithms I have found so far upon this monster, it ALWAYS yields:

XXX
XXX (Where W is a white/X/Y corner-piece).
XXW

How is one to get around this?

What?

Corner twist?

Your non-standard notation isn't helping - try taking some photos. But if you're ending up with just one corner not solved in OLL then you have likely twisted a corner or misassembled your cube.

I actually made a mistake earlier.

What I actually wanted a solution for was the following:

XXX
XXX
_X_ Where the x's are yellow panels.

Thanks guys :)

It is likely that you are doing D moves in the wrong direction.
Here are a bunch of algs that solve the orientation of the headlights case.

2 look OLL and 2 look PLL

I have seen in the internet lately that it is recommended to have an average of lower than 1 minute using the beginner's method to start learning the Fridrich method. About the beginner's method does that include the 2 look OLL and the 2 look PLL and try to reach 1 min with those two or do I need to reach 1 min purely with beginner's method?

Also, I call ******** on that one. You start learning CFOP whenever you feel like you want to move on. F2L takes a bit of time to get into and you have more algs to know for the last layer but it's not like you gotta do a 1mn check before you can get started. It's like if I tell you, you can't get started with crawl before you've swum a kilometer without pausing. And since the two methods got nothing to do with each other except the cross. And the fact that speedcubing is all about adopting a method, and practicing it until you can solve the cube while eating flakes, on the phone with your mom, following your favorite tv show, and playing chess with your flatmate, all at the same time. So, the sooner you get started the sooner you'll get results with the newer method.

2 Look OLL Help

I use 4LLL and want to improve my times when I have a dot case on OLL. I currently do (F R U R' U' F') (Fw R U R' U' Fw') which is slow and has a regrip.

I know that any dot case for full OLL would orient the four edges, so what is a good/fast dot OLL alg?

OLL and PLL question

I average one minute on begginers with a Fangshi Shuang Ren v2 / Stickerless Zanchi.
If I use begginers, but use 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL will my time ever get sub 40? I've already gotten 48 as my own PB.

Thanks alot!
