2Look OLL Memorization Help

Hey, so I have intuitive F2L down, now im learning 2look OLL

I know all the edge algs, the sune alg and anti sune alg (kinda), and I know all the others cept headlights

Should I just keep solving the whole cube till I get a certain case and do it? Or should I just keep applying the algorithm on a solved cube and get the memory down, like just sit there and tell myself "sune" and do it, then tell myself "chameleon" and do it.

Just lemme know what would be best, at this point I dont have them muscle memory, i basically say the algoritm in my head and do it as I go.

Thanks!

One thing that helps is to find the complement. For example, Chameleon generates Bowtie and vice-versa, so can you shoot them at each other and get lots of visual feedback in the process.

Just learn the algorithms. Pick one and do it 100 times. Over and over and over and over. As you're doing it, notice blocks of moves, like R U R' U' or R' F R F', and work out finger tricks for them so you can execute that block of moves as a unit so instead of executing 12 moves you performing 3 blocks of moves. Then practice it 100 more times without looking at the cube feeling the moves and how they flow into into the next.

Then don't practice algorithms for several hours, and then try to remember the algorithm. If you remember it, practice it 100 more times without looking at the cube, if you don't, practice it 200 times.

Practice, practice, practice, practice. Then practice some more. After that, practice. Get the idea?

When I get headlights I do the headlights OLL, when I get headlights oriented backwards (U2) I do the algorithm upside down. That's how well you need to know your algorithms. That's just to get as good as me and I suck.

When I first memorized Cross OLLs, I found them easy to memorize. I would just do the algorithm over and over again, and eventually it would come to the state which was the actual position you would excecute on to solve the OLL, and that is how I got my recognition of position quite fast and also connected an algorithm with a situation. Hope this helps.

For each OLL I started with a solved cube and then performed that alg until the cube returned to it's solved state.

Some OLL take a lot of iterations to return the cube to the solved state, some not so many.

i would just keep solving the cube.

as you practice more you'll get used to the algorithms and you'll start to realize quickly what you have to do to orient.

given that you already know the OLLs with edges flipped correctly, then you could go ahead and practice on a solved cube for muscle memory. you don't have to do this *too* much though.

if you want to get the most bang for your buck though, you should be working on F2L, as this is where you will shave the majority of your time. so practice solving the entire cube and looking ahead during f2l. OLL is not a slow step, even if you just use Sunes.

Like everyone has said, just practice.
It's easy to distiguish the 2-look PLLs easily from each other.
Use some memory tricks for memorizing Headlights.

This is my trick for Headlights: R'2 D R' U2 R D' R' U2 R'
1. Every other turn is R'.
2. D and U alternate.
3. Every R turn is R' except for the third one.
4. The D following the thrid one is also the opposite way (D')
5. Every U is a U2.

alright thanks, i think im just gonna take a solved cube and repeat an alg many times'

so far I have both cross, and the chameleon and diagonal corners down

sune and anti sune are almost there

and headlight I havent even practiced yet lol, thats the last one

and I cant work on solely reducing f2l times yet cuz if I cant finish the cube whats the point? my f2l and cross is like 50 seconds tho :(

Even more helpful (in addition to Swiftclaw's post) to remember is that you know you have to orient JUST TWO CORNERS by flipping them... clockwise??? (I forgot... argh)

So you realize that the first move moves a completed edge/pair combo to the middle/bottom, leaving you with the other 2/3s of the headlights; the next D move moves one of the COMPLETED edges somewhere else (watch it on your cube, I'm lazy so I'm not getting mine), then you perform a simple "flip" using the R' U2 R alg; you then move the D layer back (D'), since you realize that you flipped the corner while performing the other algorithm, and perform the same R' U2 R, except this time, you continue that layer going down to make R' U2 R', completing the alg (since you basically reconnected that corner with it's edge at the last second

Oll, and pll and other help needed~

Ok what are your methods for learning all of the oll, and plls? I know their are ALOT of them, and I dont know how I should go abouts learning them all.
what sights do you use to get the oll, and plls?

also what is your advice on how to become faster at the rubik's cube? I do the fredrick method of solveing, and also do the beginners method.

Learn Two Look Orientation and Two Look Permutation making up the Four Look Last Layer. There's only thirteen algorithms and they're very easy to learn. BadMePhisto can also help you with memorising, just check out his site. He has advice for each case on how to remember it and a handy diagram too. Not only that but he has a PLL Trainer! That BadMePhisto has everything!

I posted this in a thread just yesterday. You will find absolutely everything you need on BadMePhisto's website.

If you are another one of those 'I want to get fast now!' people then you might as well follow the crowd and use the Fridrich method, so called because it was adapted and optimised by Jessica Fridrich. This is very similar to your method at the moment; build a cross but then finish the 'F2L' or First Two Layers win one step. You will then Orientate the Last Layer (OLL) and finally Permute the last layer to finish the cube (PLL).

The method you are curently using actually has a lot of potential, you can get below 20 seconds! I'm sure another member will set you up with a link.

I also posted that two days ago. Honestly, if you want to get faster... practice. Also, we need information about you, for example: current personal best, current average and your method in more exact specifications. I don't even know if this information will apply to you.

Notice how I have spelled 'fredrick', with a capital letter too.

There is a huge amount of information that will help you on this forum, don't pass it up by ignoring the search function!

Need tips and on how to memorize OLL and PLL

Right now im trying to memorize each and every of the OLL and PLL, but suddenly I saw the 2 LOOK OLL & PLL. So I think its better to go with that first. I know many people said it need a lot of practice to master the method.

Secondly I want to know how fast can I acctually do with the Fridrich method with solving the cross then F2L, but using 2 LOOK OLL & PLL. Can I actually get under 50 sec? Right know Im still using the layer by layer method with 1:13:32 average.

I also want to know what is cutting corners and edges is? I think it some sort of fingertricks.

Thats all, Thank you.....

I have just started learning the feidrich method and all the algs are daunting! i would also love some help about trying to learn them

Memorizing oll is easy if you look for triggers such as R U R' U'. These come up a lot and have a fast execution. Another good way for pll and oll memorization is to track f2l pairs around the cube while doing the algorithm. To learn them just do one over and over again till you learn it.

If you learn f2l and 2-look oll and 2-look pll, you should be averaging under 50 no problem. Back when I used both my best times were under 30 but I know of people that can go under 20 with them.
