Anyway... I love this method because it is very similar to my 3x3 method. My rubik's 5x5 is getting really worn out, and doesn't turn very well, but now I have great rubik's 4x4, and I will be getting another 5x5, so my times are improving in both since I switched to your method for solving the midges.

On 4^3, centers can be done in two looks. First, put every cubie on the right pair of opposite centers. Second, solve both pairs of opposite centers at once.
That's 69 algorithms to learn (42 for the first step and 27 for the second), not counting setups. I'm still far from mastering all the cases. But it's definitely possible.

Please do tell more! I'd learn all of them if I could do it in 2 looks!

There's nothing really complicated in it, just look at the patterns formed by the wrong centers on all four faces and apply the corresponding algorithm (with a setup if necessary). Some examples for the first step:
- 2 wrong centers on each face, bars on F and B and diagonals on U and D: l u2 M u2 r'
- 3 on U, 1 and D, and 2 on F and B forming bars: l2 d' E2 r' E2 r d l2
and for the second step:
- 1 wrong center on each face: l' u2 l U D' l u2 l' U' D
- 2 wrong centers on each face, diagonals on U and F, bars on B and D: (Ll) U' (Ll)' d2 M d2 M' (Ll) U (Ll)'
I have not learnt all 69 cases yet, I still perform most of them in two steps...

do you have a link i could use as a visual?

mike i'm waiting for any vids of you solving big cubes :D right now i have a couple sub 2s for 5x5 already, and average sub 2:15...still working hard :D

my stupid mefferts 4x4 haven't arrived after sooooo many days :( and it's really funny for me to time using my edison 4x4....sometimes what would be a sub 1:30 time on my old rubik's in its prime (say, bad centres =X) always end up barely sub 2. yesterday i had a 1:58 for 5x5 and a 1:59 4x4 that followed after that XD

help with reduction method please (4x4x4)

im trying to follow pogobats tutorial on youtube and i have done the centres and the "dedges" but now i am trying to put the dedges and rotate them to make crosses on all the faces. The problem i have found is that on my last face (green) two of the deges are swapped and i cannot work out how to make crosses on all the faces. i have inlcuded photos for clarity and i hope you can help

thanks

If the tutorial is worth anything it would have taught you how to resolve that case.

Why are you trying to form crosses on all the sides? Is this the method you use for 3x3?

Yes, Dans site is very nice. On bigcubes.com there are 5 parities used or so and they are REALLY long and for Dans approach you only need 2 very easy parities you can learn in 10 minutes!

Yes, you are right. There is the OLL par., the OLL+PLL par. and 2 PLL par. At the time I tried to learn them, I thought I need them all.
